What can I say, The Funkbrothers stole the show on New Years Eve! I am hoping to find someone who has a tape or CD of their opening act that they would barter with?
I do think the new song Hunter debut has a lot of potential, in the right hands.

Here's my 2 cents.....
It was great to see Hunter live....he puts alot of effort into his performance, and just hearing the beloved songs he penned performed by him is a treat.
The Funk Brothers were AWESOME....So much energy and such a crisp sound....Kudos to Joan for letting the crowd in on a little history of this band. I was lucky enough to have a laminate, and from the side of the stage I saw Bobby watching and enjoying their set as well. No ego in that man...just a love of music!
Then it was time for the Dead's set....It was apparent from the beginning that they knew they had to step it up on this night...following in the footsteps of such a great opening act. I only saw the Grateful Dead one time, but I have seen every post-Jerry incarnation of this band since...and in my opinion, this was by far the best first set of music I have ever heard. They were on the money...they were loud...they were chock-full of energy...they left out the Ratdog tunes that I really like, but honestly think bring the energy down a little, especially on an occasion such as New Years Eve. It was a dream set list, at least for me personally. The highlights, though hard to pick in such a killer set, were Weather Report Suite>Let it Grow, and an amazing Reubin and Cherise....Joan does such a great job on this tune...wow!
During the break, I had enough time to find a 7 dollar beer or 2 and wander back to my little nook in front of the right side of the stage. The New Years thing with the huge flying saucer and the amazing laser show and the body shaking sounds will be hard to forget. Then midnight....balloons...confetti...and Sugar Mags! St. Stephen! What a way to bring in '04! When they made their way to "drums", I needed food and a chair. I enjoyed most of the second set in the concourse with a fat 8 dollar burrito and a comfy seat...the music making its way to me thru the hallway...softer, but so nice. I'll admit...I never pace myself too well on New Years, so when the encore (or 3rd set really) ended somewhere around 3am, I was ready for the sheets.
This band sounded better than ever, and i'm ceartin we can expect much more music and many more great nights in their company. Let's pray for their health and brotherhood so we don't have to bid farewell anytime soon. Happy New Year!!

Have to say these two shows were monumental! Ive seen many a show from GD, Others to The Dead, and by far these 5 sets were just so Dead on that it was scary. They have brought this music to a new level for us. Every tune played was so fine and every member adding their own special magic. Every emotion in me was stired up from the fun dancing Let the Good Times Roll to the tears rolling down my face of the Peggy-O. All I can say now, To everyone involved in creating "The Dead" and its wonderful music and vibe that it shares is "THANK YOU VERY MUCH" from all my heart.
