Trucked up to Happy Valley for this one, and boy was I glad I did. Really neat to see The Allman Bros. & The Dead on the same bill. Before they kicked off the set I saw Bill give Mickey a hug behind the stage. The connection these guys have is still there. The Dead walked out to a big applause. It so special to see these guys on the same stage once again. As they jumped into the set it was interesting to see Bobs hand gestures and signals to the band-improv at its best. Song by song you could hear the magic comming back to this great band-this is the Grateful Dead.
...And then Dark Star happened. It was mind rearranging. Still have the bridge to St. Stephen burnt into my memory. Love whenever Phil sets off 'The Other One'. After this one it was clear that deadhead gratitude was still there and will not fade away. The spirit was there and it foreshadowed the dead to do the 2009 tour. very special show in its own right.
