Wow, the boys were really on last night! It was such a fun show and John adds such a great vibe to the band! Keep going Furthur, guys!

Hands down the best show of the tour so far! Perfect set list, phenomenal energy and the band was just on fire! Every song was great but HSF was out of this world! Great jams in Cassidy and Lovelight as well. John's solos in So Many Roads and Let It Grow were amazing, and Chimenti just went berzerk in Wang Dang Doodle. Someone needs to update the setlist though, because Truckin was played before New Speedway Boogie. Come back soon guys!

The patriot center was a nice venue with good acoustics. However, the mix was better at Hampton. I was expecting a chill show after the great show at Hampton. The place looked mostly full.

The show overall was good, but still lots of fun with some nice highlights.
The first set was laid back. I thought everything was well played. It did heat up with sitting on top of the world thru speedway. These were the three best songs of the set and set a nice mood for the second set.

The second set started off with a great Help>Slip>Franklins. It was super tight and they nailed it. The percussion during slipknot was great. Cassidy and Lovelight were ok with lovelight being a little misplaced here. St. Stephen is always great to hear. Not as intense as Cville 2009. The revolution was beautiful with JK as the lead man. The eleven was very good. The so many roads was excelent and JK nailed the ballad. I wish they would let him sing moe. He happens to play with more intensity on the songs he gets to sing, that I saw the last 2 nights. The let it grow was hot. The playin was ok and Johnnie B Goode was rushed as they were getting close to curfew.

Overall it was a fun show that had some nice moments. I was impressed with this show, since they followed the awesome show at Hampton with another solid effort.

Maybe it was being in the upper deck...but as Hippy Freak says it is all about the LOVE(below)...great show George Mason was a great party MUSIC sounded GREAT seemless transitions very tight....like fine wine and cheese these boys only get BETTER with time maybe it is the new blood I don't know but I felt the LOVE and suggest you hitch a ride on the bus...what a setlist...what a ride!!

below is from Hampton reveiw post is by Hippy Freak

I've been watching by night and watching by day.
an going to inform you people that what is lacking at
these shows isn't Mr. JG, emotion, better drummers or all the other bitches some people got. i am going to tell you because you need to hear it. It's bitchy ones I am talking to cause it ain't all of you for sure. Who the f#%@ are you, greater than the music? Not. You and your love are whet is missing from the scene. If you are all out of love -stay home- I am pretty sure the band would rather play to 2,000 love filled dead heads then 5,000 angry bastards that are gonna wreck the message and shit in the road. Ya better go practice how to love, you've lost your step and fell out of grace. Grateful Dead Tunes are about love as well as what is NOT love. But it's all about the love, DO YOU GET IT NOW? Love is the ass, grass or gas on this bus, baby. Wanna ride?????

I saw Hard Rock last week- then Fairfax this week- WOW! These guys can bring both the fire AND ice.

Hard Rock was smokin' hot- with that loose feel you expect from the band- however Fairfax was jamming, mellow, and SUPER TIGHT- very professional. When they turned the sound up ('bout halfway through the first set) things got cookin'. There were some excellent up-tempo songs- Sittin' and the 11 rocked! - and So Many Roads was supurb! Bobby has to remember this is not Ratdog- and to move up the tempo (and let JK sing more!) but these are minor critiques. AND I was happy to skip One More Saturday Night and get Johnny Be Good instead!

This is a *must see* band!

I got the grass and my old lady got the ass!!! I`m on that bus baby!!
Like John Lennon said....All we need is LOVE!!

Hey CG, happy to read your positive reviews. I respect your point of view after reading your views on The Dead Tour of last spring. Now that JK is on board and Warren "the hardest working man in show business" Haynes has been given a much deserved vacation, I am looking forward to the fast approaching Utica show. Keep writing, and as Hippy Freak once penned, " it's all about the love." As far as I'm concerned, it's all about finally bringing JK on board.

Initially, I was bummed when I saw the setlist from the Hampton show because I had a ticket but could not make it due to the snow and also missed the Shakedown. Happy that livedownloads.com will have the show available.

However, to my surprise, I was very pleased with the Patriot Center show. The second set from start to finish was great. I thought that the Cassidy jam was very good in addition to all of the other great songs (HSF, Stephen, 11). I also liked a second set Let It Grow. The only song that did not fit for me was Ship of Fools. In the first set it was too fast...I prefer the second set slower version.

I am anxious for the setlist from the Barton Hall to see if it is comparable to the 77 show.

First a few general observations and then down to my setlist comments
- great sound on the floor... not too loud, nearly crystal clear. I wonder if the sound in the rafters was as good ( have had bad sound experiences at the Patriot Center in upper levels in past)
- Jay Lane has a hell of a lot of fun up there and brings good energy. Saw Phil look over his way a few times just flat out laughing at him..in a good
- Never noticed before really but Bob tastefully uses the Whammy bar on his Pink guitar

I: Jam > Playin in the Band: Nice surprise opener, some solid "72 lead playing by JK using Wah Pedal

Wang Dang Doodle: Never was a big fan of this tune back in the day but it was the perfect choice for the 2 slot. Good speak easy vibe everybody singing along

Friend of the Devil: Done at a brisk clip, nice bluegrass/pedal steel stuff by JK

Greatest Story Ever Told: Wow, finally get to hear this done at the right tempo. Massive boogie bass line by Phil, nailed the subtly difficult changes. Sounds like Good Ol GD.. not Ratdog or Phil

Ship of Fools: Like the pace, decent vocals from JK.. nothing special but not bad

Sittin on Top of the World: Bobby and JK talk for a while, BW encouraging him he should sing the next song, JK says OK what the hell. Super energy, everyone surprised, ripping

Truckin: One of few low points, tempo too slow, Phil leans over to Bob towards ends and makes hand gestures that Bob's guitar is out of tune.. Bob concedes and switches to Pink Modulus .. potential disaster avoided.
New Speedway Boogie: love Bob singing this with passion, great sing along.. Phil digging it. Perfect set ender

II: Help on the Way > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower, Cassidy: Absolutely superb, Russo and Lane in particular.

Turn On Your Lovelight: Started off slow and boring, caught steam..Bobby even rapped a little bit
St. Stephen: starts out great...Phil grinning.. into it meanders..and Phil starts to look bored and wondering where the hell Bobby wants to go.. Bobby with head down plowing ahead working his plan
Revolution: Me thinks it's Cosmic Charlie but no...sung with passion and fun but not spectacular
The Eleven: Phil somehow jump starts this out of Revolution.. finally catches steam and then Phil gets either bored or confused as no one but Bobby knows where things are going next
So Many Roads: I have a huge soft spot for this tune and JK really deliverd well and put his own stamp on it but put just enough Jerry in to make it work. Phil was back in the fold playing this just looking serene and smiling on this one
Let It Grow: Holy shit... every one is tired and drained.. it's past eleven and Bob breaks this out. Now it's a marathon and Bob is setting the pace. Very well done.. how the hell are these guys in there 60's and 70's still on there feet grinding it out when I'm 31 and my legs are killing me
Playin in the Band (reprise) : I could see how Bob envisioned the transition out of LIG when the setlist was written but it was started from a cold jump start. They got through it well enough I suppose.

Quick exit off stage and before they can get into the dressing rooms and before they lighters are whipped out Phil gets everyone back onstage.. quick donor rap and a fairly spirited Johnny B Goode to send us on our way.

The coolest thing about these guys is their willingness to take risks to try new transitions and their gumption to save the day and get things going when it seems like a trainwreck is going to happen. This show was a mix of incredibly tight ( GSET, HSF) and near collapses that were saved through passion and effort ( Eleven, Lovelight).

Best Good Ol' Grateful Dead music ( ie.. not to heavily influenced by Ratdog, Phil... Warren etc..) I've heard since Pittsburgh 95

Forgot the Cassidy... slowly bubbled and gained steam, bobby conducting and leading the band up the chord ladder with a great peak.

Thought the 1st set was a laid back until "Sittin on Top of the World" and New Speedway. Sittin was upbeat and seemed to get the crowd into the show. Ship of Fools just didn't seem like the band was together for the entire song. 2nd set absolutely ass kickin. HSF high energy & looked like everyone, band & audience was having fun. Phil smiled almost the entire set. Really good song selection and the new youth in the band appears to push Phil & Bobby. The band played past midnight. Best rendition of Grateful Dead music since the passing of the Captain.

is this one on Archive? I cannot find it. Until now just listening to all the shows the Hardrock still takes the cake for me.

There was a distinct "i'm up to this task" undertone from John in this show. The line "30 years upon my head to have you call me child" (although I believe he changed it to 40) part in ship of fools and the "call me a whinin' boy, if you will" parts in So Many Roads were highlighted by cheers from the audience. They threw a spotlight on him for So Many Roads, and man that guy didn't dissapoint; his voice is golden on that one. Bobby also gave him a rip roarin' "Johnny B. Goode" encore, and it says something about their respect for him that they'd sing "mama told him someday you will be a man, and you will be the leader of a big ol' band..." I've been hoping they'd pick him up since the first time I saw DSO, and they made the right choice. In terms of playing Grateful Dead songs, I'll take Kadelcick over Warren Haynes any day of the week. Just compare the energy level of this show to anything from the 2009 tour and you'll see what this guy brings to the table. Hopefully they'll stick with this lineup and bust out a summer tour.

Just wanted to say thanks to Charles in Baltimore, CG and others for the detailed reviews. I had to skip Fairfax but was really curious about the show. Some folks who comment in this section think that honest criticism means we don't LOVE the band enough, hogwash! As longtime deadheads we are interested in both the shows' high points and low points. After all, this section is for opinion reviews both good and bad. I have found that the best reviews take both the great and not so great aspects into consideration before forming an overall opinion about a show.

I echo snash. Unfortunately, I will be back to review 2nd night Chicago. I would like to make this point again...there were non-sellouts last year and this year. I love East Coast shows, but maybe the band should play more than 2 midwest shows on their tour. I bet you, they would fill out some midwest barns without any problems.

CG, Wisconsin
How about getting 2 DarkStars and 2 St. Stephen/11 in 4 VA/DC shows over the last 2 years? The east coast does rock. That is better than the IKO I get everytime I go to Chicago.

I thoroughly enjoyed this show and am proud to have seen what I think was a 'great' Dead show in my backyard, the Patriot Center. I've seen many a post-Jerry era Dead show around town and this one is now #1 on my list. Wether it be a Rat Dog or Phil or Other Ones or Dead at Nissan, Patriot Center, Warner, Verizon, Merriweather, etc., those shows were all fun and pretty good, but this one was a lot different.

I was bummed I couldn't make it to Hampton, and honestly didn't have high expectations of a great show at Patriot Center as Hampton often peaks with energy and DC often gets a little less. I couldn't have been more wrong. The boys tore it up. Two long, long sets, going past midnight. And the set list was rich with many of my dream set list songs. I can't wait to download this puppy for eternal reflection. I'd go in to song details but others have done plenty of justice on that. But the HelpSlipFrank was ba-boing! And just when you're about to drop they hit you with Let it Grow, Playing and a JBGoode encore. There is a fountain...

I'm very pshyched they have John K as the lead now. He's been proving it with DSO for years and I've been blown away many a time watching them, and especially John. So he seemed a perfect fit for the dead, but almost too perfect. Warren and Jimmy were just okay (to me) but never wowed me as Dead leads (but awesome in their current bands). So I had some doubts. But this music has a unique power and way of elevating and sustaining its greatness. Furthur is at a new peak with John. And DSO is just as strong as ever with Jeff. There is balance in the universe!

I can't wait to see Further again. I hope they play All Good!

They definitely carried the energy through from the second set of Hampton the night before. And yes, they were extremely tight for most of the show. Nice and toasty inside, compared to the icy parking lot outside (slip not!). Loved the old-tempo FOTD, GSET, Truckin'/Speedway to end the first set. HSP was as good as everyone is saying, Lovelight was a little slow but interesting placement. Stephen I was hoping they'd save for the next night. Revolution did sound like Cosmic Charlie at first, element of surprise. As for the Eleven: I'm really digging Bobby much more than I used to, think his guitar playing is better than ever, and miss all of the vocal acrobatics of his younger days between...but the Eleven is too much for just him to handle. They have enough voices up there that they can pull off a chorus-style '69-style sing-along, and for goodness' sake, bring back the William Tell bridge! Let It Grow did in fact kick it up into marathon mode, and the Playin' reprise was a nice way to sew it all together again. Had me hoping for good ol' Saturday Nite after the ripping JBG, sad they didn't throw it in for my wife, who was dancing up a storm after finally getting on the bus after 9 years of hearing me blab about the 'good old days.' On to Ithaca!

The Patriot Center show was absolutely the best Grateful Dead live music I've seen since Jerry left, and I've seen a bunch (including some Ratdog stuff in Jamaica, that while not good ol' GD was so intimate you just have to love it). I was originally sad to miss Hampton, saw my first Hampton show in '79 and they never disappoint, but the cold rain and SNOW kept me away. I am thankful Fairfax was rockin' Saturday night (who says you can't find happiness in your own backyard). I won't repeat the reviews, I think they captured the show well. Just don't let the individual details hide the overall experience, which was just excellent. Also the energy level was high and the band was tight all night long, if it wasn't for a midnight curfew my guess is we would have seen even more music. As it was even a rushed JBG was a great ending. Don't miss these guys.

We came down for the Hampton shows and hit up George Mason on the way home! First set was awesome. The music was playing the band. Second set started out good with help> franklins. A good Cassidy and Lovelight. Then midway thru St. Stephen, Bobby started orchestrating and the rest of the second set was very choppy. So many roads is one that should just be left alone. Let it grow was really out of place tonight. I just didnt fit!

There is still is no other place Id rather be than at a dead show.

I just wish bobby would do less orchestrating and let the music continue to play the band!

When that happens this band soars to a different level!!

Keep up the great work boyS!
Can't wait to see you again in AC and hopefully the VIBESSSSSS!!!!!!!

I'm just looking at all the past setlists now that my shows are over and what happened to One More Saturday Night here!? I mean theres only 1 night a week that they can play it and I figured that's why they scheduled every Sat on the tour. That has to be a first besides when they didn't play it at the rehearsal shows. Sweet set anyway though!

Just getting a chance to listen to this show now, really great.
I had to skip this one, what a bummer; this show is super hot.
Sitting on Top of the World is awesome. This show has the energy
I was hoping to get at Hampton, tight and rockin'. The dead used to break out the Johnny B. Goode encore when they were feeling really good about that night's performance, seems like that's the case with furthur also.

Snashforce, Asheville
I am listening to this show, now 8 months later. Its a pretty sweet show, but the slipknot is grateful dead worthy. It comes in at 7 1/2 minutes and is perfect. The Franklins from Chicago is better, though. I remember that by Let it Grow, I was so tired. However, It might have been due to the awesome show at Hampton and then this bad boy to follow. Anyone who got to catch these back to back, caught the best 2 shows of the tour. Congrats.

CG, Wisconsin
Great Furthur show by the boys! The arena was 95% full with 10,000 people that love to hear live music. After one hell of a winter here in the DC area this show warmed up everybody with some hot tunes. I have to thank the folks at GDTSTOO for sending me 2 front row tickets. We love it when you guys come to the DC area to rock our socks off. The music never stops and keep on trucking boys! After hearing you guys perform for 25 years you can always count me in for a real good time.
