Just listened to a few things on archives from this show. Love JK's Comes a time...what a gem. Loved prudence, but let JK sing it. What a great tour.
CG, Wisconsin
Again, sounds great. This group is really starting to hit on all cylinders. My only issue is to let JK sing more of the tunes!
GS, Wilton, CT
Why dont we just let JK sing the whole show, and better yet, lets get the other members of DSO to fill in too!!!
Ive seen 5 shows on tour so far, JK sings too much in my opinion.
That being said, they sound great. Its just more authentic if Bobby or Phil sing it. I think Phil is singing better now than he ever has including early 70's.

I have to say that if I was never able to see Bobby and Phil play together again, I would be completely satisfied with last night's show as my last hurrah as a faithful parishoner of the chapel which is Dead. On the ride over to the show, a buddy and I were choosing one song that we each would love to hear; "Unbroken Chain" and "Touch of Grey." Both of which were played beautifully. They also threw in a goose bump worthy "We bid you Goodnight." This latest version of Grateful musicians sounds like what the original members always aspired to be. The originals shared a unique bond, a unique sound, and a unique place in history. But this new group, Further, truly honors the spirit, energy, history, and musicianship of Jerry and all the members of The Grateful Dead, those still here and those since passed. What a show! I sang 'Rider' harmonies with a 70 year old man! JK is phenomenal! His guitar and voice bring a unique freshness to the vocals and music. But there is still no doubt that he is touched every night by the spirit of JG. Great show, moving. The crowd was alive with the spirit. The Dead are ALIVE!

The show last night was awsome..... The high light for me was Dear Prudence followed by Satisfaction. The Wheel was also played perfected. Ive seen 5 shows on this tour and JK is starting to grow on me. I cant wait to see more shows. For you all get the sound board CDS there even better.

The Atmosphere: Shakedown Street was cold with rain, snow and wind. There was no problem with the man in the parking lot. Plenty of food and merriment to be had outside in the cold. Inside the atmosphere was warm and friendly. No one was being hassled. The smell of kine flowed from every crevice. Bobby and Phil actually made reference to this in the first set after Satisfaction. There was dancing in the plenty. Yet very little patchoulli smell to be smelled among the throngs of people that surrounded the arena. The smell of sticky, dry, wasted beer on the floor could be smelt.
The Music: This is the some of the best music I have heard in years.

what a wonderful and beautiful way to spend sat. nite. This is by far the best music bob and phil have played since the jerry era hands down. The jams are creative, the band is tight and it's just damn good to be back on the bus. Oxford,ME this july like back in 88 What can you say i always like to go back in my time machine and feel that certain something that is only available through Grateful Dead Music.............

The scene on Shakedown Street was pretty awesome: raw and cold, with rain, snow and biting wind, but happening. As someone noted: There was no problem with the man in the parking lot. Plenty of food and merriment to be had. Frozen chocolates were the choice for us.
Inside, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, despite the smell of the sticky, dry, wasted beer coming from the floor, and no one was being hassled. In the arena, the smell of kind flowed from every crevice, which Phil and then Bob made reference to after the first set, and the walls were dripping with sweat when they weren't moving.
The lengthy "half-time" break sure boosted beer sales, but muted my buzz. At $8 a pop, the suds flowed until the final notes of the encore for the throngs of upstate New Yorkers who packed the arena. The break was long, over an hour, and came during peak hour for me. Is there someone I can complain to about this ? Antsy as ever, when I returned to our seats, some Gordon Gecko-type was seating in my seat checking his Blackberry. As I edged by, he acted bothered, and quickly bent over to grab his beer, as if I was one of those Deadhead types who always kick your beer when they pass by. I watched with dilated pupils and delight as his Blackberry slid off his knee and belly flopped right into his beer. Next, a zit-splattered kid attending a local community college sat down next to me. He ripped out a big bag of skunky buds, filled a glass bowl, and passed it on down the line. He told me, "I was hardly born when Jerry died."
The young players Phil and Bobby have surrounded themselves with allow them to play with the intensity of live Phish. These guys were amped up. It was an interesting experience to listen to a guitar player who is able to emulate Jerry's stylings and phrasing, yet not copy them, while also showing the proper measures of respect to the music and the man. I think this guy is a good guitar player, period, and not just a guy who can cop Jerry's licks real well. He does at times sound eerily like Jerry when singing, especially in the timbre of his voice.
Go see this band and decide for yourself how you feel about them !!

This show was amazing and I am as grateful as I can get. Keep on rocking and thank you Furthur and Utica for a real good time! I love you but Jesus loves you best. Settling down easy and sending ya'll peace and joy for the rest of your way.

MAGIC,AWSOME,EPIC, IF I NEVER SAW ANOTHER SHOW I WOULD BE A HAPPY MAN. THIS WAS THE BEST MUSIC THAT I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS.

LOL sean, that was one of the funniest reviews ever! I hate when that happens too...and that was one long ass set break.
As for the show--it was definitely solid. The crowd was LOUD!!! About as loud as I've ever heard--definitely matching Asbury in Dec. which was very loud as well.
I would say last Monday at Lehigh was a little better show overall (they played a lot of the same songs, too) but this was nice. Reuben and Cherise satisfied my girlfriend as that's her favorite song... China>wheel>rider was the highlight for me. I'm not a big Unbroken Chain guy--Comes a Time was nicely played but again not one of my favorites.. Dont really love when they play Satisfaction/Magnolia Mtn. but what are you gunna do, gotta throw a few covers in there. Ramble on Rose was as good as Monday's and probably the highlight of the first set.
This was my 5th Furthur show--3 more to go! Radio City will be awesome I'm sure, and look for me in the first row in Atlantic City!!! Somehow got lucky enough off the presale 2 months after it ended!! They must have felt bad for my bad trip Monday night...
I've been giving away terrapin rings at the last few shows..., If you're at Radio City--find the guy in the dark blue dancing turtles hoodie if you want one before they run out!!!
"the bus came by and I got on, thats when
it all began..."

Much love to all the Furthur crew & all those supporting! The music is growing; building & expanding as they gracefully move forward. Very grateful & giving thanks after catching 3 shows NH MA NY
I must say that while the band is on point, the followers need to tighten up their act. Pick up after ourselves, respect our environment & ourselves while still exploring the music with lots of love & freedom. It must be a conscious time so please help spread jah word. See you all in Maine this summer & keep your eyes open for Indoor Plant Kingdom store presence at the fest! Bless

I have to say, it is getting pretty tiresome having to read more and more "reviews" where people are bashing the singing of Phil and Bobby (TWO ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD, HELLO?) in favor of songs being sung by JK. While I am as thrilled as anybody else by the music being produced by this band and completely dig what JK is doing on a nightly basis, he is a guy from a band that was copying the Dead. Period. He's great, but he's lucky to be playing with Phil and Bobby. If Phil or Bobby, having given a guitar player like JK the opportunity of a lifetime, want to allow or not allow him to sing, that is their right and perogative, having spent 40+ years on the road building the frigging CULTURAL ICON that is the Grateful Dead. Get some perspective quick, people. I have been astounded to read posts by people who have "followed" DSO and are bitter that Phil "stole" their guitar player and think Phil and Bobby are ego-maniacs that should be ashamed of themselves for not letting JK sing. Holy Cow! Get a CLUE! DSO WOULD NOT HAVE A CAREER IF NOT FOR BOBBY AND PHIL!!!!!
Can either Bobby or Phil butcher a song from time to time? No question. But maybe all the DSO "heads" could back off a little and just review the show instead of using this forum to campaign for "their guy" singing more.

JK's singing is great and he allows the band to play some of Jerry's songs just like we remember them, but I agree with CE. Folks are getting out of hand with the let JK sing more bit.
Phil and Bob have earned the right to do things the way they want, 45 years gets you that. And you gotta realize that Bob is clearly relieved that JK's there and that he doesn't have to do all of the singing himself.
I've seen all of the upstate NY shows and I've been astounded by the way the band is jelling and the amount of fun they all seem to be having together. I say don't change a thing, just keep playing like they're gonna take this shit away from you boys.

No offense but Sean in White Plains is funny. The beers were $5 and the set break was 40 minutes. Third and last show of this tour for me after the CT/NJ run. The band is growing by leaps and bounds with each show they play. I wish I could have seen the blackberry slip off the front porch into the beer, that would have been priceless. Schoolgirl opener?? Come on Man!!! I guess Furthur is a box of chocolates......
On the serious side , a well played show top to bottom. The highlight for me was China Cat>Wheel>Rider. I'll pull a page from Sean and say the 2 hour Unbroken Chain was a bit much and should not have been sandwiched between Magnolia Mtn. and Comes A Time.
That being said, Bob and Phil have earned the right to sing, play, and let whomever sing whenever they see fit. The ear to ear smile on Phil's face tells it all.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone is entitled to have one but not be one!!!

What a fun night in Utica, New York. Phil and Bobby and the rest of the band seem to be having a ball - the crowd loved every minute of it...it was a fun audience - lots of nice people.
This was my third time seeing Futhur, the first time at the first Hammerstein Ballroom, from then till now - simply amazing

Had a blast in Utica, this one felt like old times, the crowd was loud, the vibe was palpable. I loved China Cat>Wheel>Rider. JK was great on Foolish Heart and Magnolia Mountain but I truly still love to hear Bobby and Phil on vocals aswell. Is it just me or do they need to turn Bobby and Phil's mics up? I was in Albany for the Dead show last April and found I couldn't hear Bobby very well at that one either, he sounds great on the sound board recordings...so I don't understand what is happening live. Love the way this band is coming together I hope they continue to tour.
Jeff, Kingston
Andrew from Rochester, Im with ya dude...saw the NY shows and this is three steps up...every show. All you can ask for and more. This tour is theeeee shit, a chance to see this band in small venues....maybe never again.....i dont know. I only hope they come back to these and dont just run to the big sheds this summer.

After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews of this edition, I was psyched for this show. of course, i was also psyched when Warren first joined them, and Joan, etc. Without dissing the former, this current rendition I agree is special. Bobby's vocals, used more sparingly and in contrast to JK, are just right.
My faves: Ramble (though I think 2/15 was a tad better from the archives) and the China>Wheel>Rider though again there is a higher shelf they can go to on Rider....next time 'round maybe...wait n see. They adjusted the PA several times to bring Bobby and Phil up. I bet the soundboards are perfect.
*First time I've been to a 100% GA show. The place was packed was it an official sellout? and yet, when we left the floor in search of seats, easy to find. no 'reserved' by coats.
*cops readily apparent - yet no busting observed.
*nice shakedown but rainy
*entry to the AUD through two doors only. Very slow, missed opener. My fault.
*Hotel Utica: the place to be, pics on their website resemble Mars hotel. they let people crash on the 2nd floor lounge chairs, there were dozens of empty balloons (be neat, people!) and the whole 4th floor had that herbal smell to it - deep into the night. I guess when they say it is a smoking room... (Yup, I had to open a window there was so much waftage)
As many have said - SEE THIS BAND! So glad to hear the news and rumors of Summer dates.

Really solid show to follow last night's masterpiece. Kind of like the Farifax show following Hampton.
The first set had great song selection and it was well played. One of the better first sets of the tour.
The second set China Cat>Wheel>Rider was tight. Magnolia Mountain is overworked. Not a fan of the Ryan Adam's slot. Unbroken Chain is consistant every time they play it. I think this my favorite version of the tour. Loved the JK Comes a Time...what a treat that it finally came out of the song book. Another great GDTRFB. The show was deserving of We bid you...
