Did anyone give Bobby some? He was asking rather politely during Hard To Handle. Although, he probably should have said please first.

What a rockin' show!!! Radio City is truly a palace... awesome that security was so light, did not get patted down at the door and the smoke flowed freely throughout!!! Just make sure you have a ticket to the lower section if you want to sit down there because they check at several places.
Onto the show.. started out with a nice Playin in the Band which got the crowd going.. After Midnight/They Love Each other were very well played and the crowd loved it!!! Went to the can during "masterpiece" but luckily got back in time to catch a bangin' (and apt for the venue) Samson!! Great first set!
Set 2 started nicely with viola lee and a really groovin' Shakedown--def. a crowd favorite. Deal>Mason's was red hot as well... Don't love Days Between when bob sings it, myself and others around me started nodding off but right back up with Let it Grow, and a smokin' HSF to finish! Just what I wanted to hear!
Overall a great show... making the second "trip" tonight.. hoping for a St. Stephen>The Eleven>NFA this evening... this was my 6th Furthur show and they really do keep getting better!!

Excellently played, high energy fun show. During the opening Jam there was clearly a huge Other One theme going on. So much so, we were convinced they had opened with it, segued into the Playin--> After Midnight that was terrific. Highlights included The Race is On, Samson, Viola, great Let it grow and terrific show ending Help Slip. Sorry I am not going tonight, but up to Mohegan we go Friday.

cosmic dave missed the best song of the night - masterpeice was as elegant dead bangin as you're going to get
love the other one jam opener - playin was tight and unfinished (i think) and it was great to get some bobby vocals to kick the tires on the NYC two night stand. after midnight was swingin, with john k. really mimicing jerry's scale work nicely, masterpeice was a highlight with bobby really telling the poem as dylan had written it. they love each other was nice but would have loved it if they played the fast version!
bobby f-d up the lyrics to s&d but Let it grow was excellently sung, and john k. noodling over bobbys deep vocals was what i really came out to hear, so thanks for that one guys. help, slip, franklins was just a treat and did NOT expect to get that one after the evening had progressed - they let slipknot wander nicely (looked like phil mentioned to bobby that they needed to bring it back together as a likely radio city curfew loomed)
wild light show for bobby and phil - felt like i was at a phish show at certain points, though very well done overall. they featured wandering beams of white/yellow light which contrasted nicely with the beautiful radio city music hall's glow. whats with the spacey digital screen behind the band? cool thought, with the lazers etc, but i had fleeting recollections of allman brothers at the beacon slapping up stupid pictures of mushrooms / old band shots
all around terrific show, IMO better than arena dead shows from the summer - look forward to round two this evening - lookin for a stagger lee, duppree's, and a finish of playin!

First off, the SOUND in Radio City is so loud and crisp - even a mediocre show would be worthwhile. But this was a good show!!
Everything in Set 1 up to and including Mr. Fantasy was flawless.
Jeff came through with a sweet ragtime piano solo on TLEO and handed it over to John for Jerry licks.
Bobby's vocals on Masterpiece were bellowing off the walls. BELLOWING. Sincerely, it is no stretch to say it was one of the best vocal renditions of that tune that I've ever heard. ..and your uncle loves me a good Masterpiece.
Race is On started a little slow, but revved up mightily in the solo space.
Although Set 2 had its duller moments (Days Between> Let It Grow), I cannot complain with any set housing a threesome of Viola Lee, Shakedown and Help>Franklin's. The latter combo is the one I've been aiming to see - and they crushed it!! Up tempo, right on point with transitions and nice room for slipknot.
The only bone I have to pick is not with the band, but with the crowd. What does it take to get these people to shake their old bones? My section in 1st mezz was active, but looking out over the floor, there was no real movement - even during Shakedown!!!

Can someone please post what time the show started? Thanks!
Doc Rich, NYC
Highlights were definitely Shakedown and Deal (especially the second solo through the end, little Jerry and band were killing it).
The lightshow was also great.
But Bobby is not Pigpen. Hard to handle was just ok.
And Masons>Days>Let it Grow kind of killed the crowd. Too bad, because I was struck again by what a beautiful song Days is, but Bobby can't deliver the goods.
But a great Help>Slip>Frank brought everyone back and heading home happy.
Best part of the night for me, was being able to give my first miracle.

Was at the show - thought it was a really good show but not a great show. Much better than Hammerstein. Looking forward to the show tonight. Doesn't Phil drop any bombs? At times JK sounded exactly like Jerry - the drummers are good but do not compare to Mickey and Bill - had a bit of trouble hearing at times. Hopefully the Deasd comer back with JK. That would be a treat. The female singers were great!!

Show started at 7:55 - there was a long line on 51st to get in so arrive early, and please don't cut in front of people who arrived earlier, not cool and can only cause trouble. Be careful outside - know someone who got busted for smoking, a real bummer. Also, be careful smoking inside, my friend got thrown out - would have been more of a bummer if he didn't get lucky by scoring another tix. Otherwise, very good show - Phil letting loose vocally on a few songs was sweet! John K. was all around v.g. Does anyone know the deal with him and DSO? Looks like they replaced him - is that permanent? Expect a real smoker tonight!
Bob, North NJ
Cool show. Loved After Midnight/Masterpiece/Viola Lee/Shakedown/LIG/Help>Slip>Franklin's. Days Between is meh--like the lyrics, find the song a bit dull. Radio City wouldn't let us in with the tix we bought from a friend because they were for handicapped. Those seats were nosebleeds. Went to the box office as they were jamming before Playin' and snagged 9th row center on the floor! Guys with the balloons on the corner of 6th Ave have balls (glad they were there, though)!

Sounds like it was a great show! Sorry I missed it! Hope GB enjoyed it and it was worth it!!!! :)

Average show - dull at times (Mason's, Days Between) and hot for a moment or two (TLEO, Slipknot). The highlight for me was my first Race is On in 18 years of regularly seeing Bobby perform live. It's true that JK sounds just like Jerry! Even during the more free form jams you can close your eyes and it's just like....well you know.

can anyone tell me what kind of space the "playin in the band" took in last night? was it jammed out? spacey? how long? any 2010 tigers? need to know...
bayou mike, palm harbor fla
Playn jam wasn't an "out there" tiger jam at all, more mellow warm up type of jam. Not that it was bad, in fact it was a great opener. The Other One jam that came before was building to be a killer and would have been a monster opener. Masterpiece was in fact excellent to the points above. It is by far the best Dylan cover Bob does. Entire place singing and booming vocals. Really Bob at his best. Find it an listen

DSO has taken on Jeff Matson who is one great guitar player and lover of all things Garcia.
He has played for years as the leader of the Zen Tricksters
and back in the day they were at the Right Track Inn every Saturday Night out in Long Island as the Volunteers.
Truthfully, when Jerry was struggling in the later years I hoped he would let Jeff take over the Dead so Garcia could pursue JGB and all the other side projects he was jazzed about. (Gone are the days)
Anyhow- if you can catch DSO with Jeff Matson you will not be disapointed and Jeff can play everything in Garcia's catalog back to the Acid Test days.
By the way I caught a tight DSO show '73' so I dig J.K.
My Two cents:
I think it is great that the 'next of kin' is coming to center stage. It reminds me of when I saw Bill Monroe many years ago and he was mentoring the next generation of pickers.
We have been blessed to have so much of the music recorded for us to enjoy but if you can't play it live and experience it and dance and get off it is just one step removed from elevator muzak

Born in Manhattan originally, so looked forward to getting my midtown on after Hampton-Fairfax-Ithaca two weekends ago. Was afraid at first it would be a musclehead NYC crowd, but lots of true believers in the audience, and plenty of shaking on the floor, to the frustration of the ushers who gave up trying to keep the aisle clear midway through the first set.
Other One was a foreboding opener, and they took it straight through the opening bass line, but then skipped the verses and went right into Playin'. Figured they were saving the rest for later. After Midnight rocked on, and for a moment Furthur was JK's new band. TLEO continued nicely, my wife's and I third version in six shows, and Masterpiece was indeed magnificent. Never liked that tune back in the day, and typically would have gone to the bathroom, but this one was quite masteful, especially with the light show. Race is On gave credit to their 'Reckoning' stint, and Two Djinn was better than the Hampton version, but still managed to "suck the energy out of the room" - Bob's trying, but something's missing there. Samson had a nice vocal opener, and finished off an excellent first set that sounded more like a second set at times. The setlist posted overlooks one of the main highlights, the Dear Mr. Fantasy that continued the Masterpiece theme, not to mention the unique piano solo from Jeff, which as far as I know is a first for Furthur (?)
Second set sagged a little in a few spots, but was still all that and more. Shakedown plopped down without warning after VLB, and Truckin' would have been better than Deal at that moment. My third and least favorite version of Mason's, although the vocals are getting better. I don't mind Bobby singing Days Between, and think it would be much better if people didn't choose to talk so much throughout - same problem at Hampton. Let it Grow was very nice, and HSP killed the house. Nothing left in anyone except a rollicking little encore.
The nitrous parade on Ave of the Americas after the show was hysterically out of place. Figured NYPD wouldn't tolerate it for too long, and sure enough, just as we were fixing to join in, someone started shouting "6 up", and both uniformed and undercover guys rushed in as if to put put a fire. My guess is it ended badly, and didn't see any the next night.

I thought it was a very good but not great show.
Radio City is perhaps the nicest venue I've seen for these shows. Fun to be in with the New York crowd. Many veterans.
A bit disappointed with all of the talking during slower songs and instrumentals. A friend once handled this issue by turning to the people yakking and asking them if they knew the words. When they answered "No", he quietly said to them, "Then listen!"
Overall, very enjoyable. Help>Slip>Frank my favorite of the night.
