another amazing show. only caught one slip during bucket that was quickly recovered well. personal highlights were after midnight, loser, tom thumb's (buckeye93), comes a time, 2djinn through the rest of the set was just spelling it out but the majority of the crowd was disrespectful and thus got the encore they deserved - of course they rocked it, but if the crowd was grateful, we could've gotten the viola listed and a major encore. basically, columbus needs to leave the tickets for the people who want the band back. thanks furthur and those of you that went for the right reasons

excuse the left out word - "majority of the crowd 'which' was disrespectful. and for those of you wondering - the "list" i'm referring to is on ratdog's message board. at least mohawk got it!

'Twas a well-played show, but I have to agree with Phil from NC that the crowd detracted somewhat. I've never seen so many drunk people at a Dead-related event before and at times the constant chatter made it hard to listen to the tunes, that's how loud everyone was. The woman in front of me talking at the top of her voice with her back to the stage during "Comes a Time" stands out as a particularly memorable offender. There were, as always, a lot of nice folks there for the right reasons, but the few bad apples spoiled some of this show for me. Despite that, Wharf Rat, Loser, BE Women, Let it Grow, and Midnight Hour were standouts. Phil sang the "started out on Heineken" line in Tom Thumb's Blues which summed up the audience perfectly.

It turned out to be a nice summer day. Not a cloud in the sky driving to Columbus. Streets and parking around the venue were extra crowded due to the fireworks going on downtown and the concert. Once I was in I saw it was a good little venue. I made my way right upfront and waited for the show. The first set was a good mix of songs all well played. After midnight started the show with energy. John played all the Jerry songs very well. I liked getting Phils Tom Thumb Blues. The 1st set ended with a very dancable In the Midnight Hour. Watched the rest of the show right in front of Phil it was cool. The scarlet was a good start. The biggest highlight was the shakedown street/ king solomons marbles combo. It really was "sick" worthy that everyone around me kept saying. Then an intense Let it Grow ending the fireworks. A good show. Furthur is playing Dead music right. I did experience some loud drunken people trying to be to chatty during the music, but it was all worth it for a night in the Phil Zone.

That shit was locked in tight...shakedown marbles let it grow not fade, listen to it...loser BEW Tom Thumbs and caddy killed the CAT...man, really smoking good music, big ears all around on stage and going for it. Loved it...I thought the crowd was rowdy, ragged but right...might o been some drunk folks, but that really don't much bother me...if they are buggin I move until I find the sweet spot. So many cool folks jammmin and dancing and getting down right. Thanks Furthur! I can't wait to be apart of it all again...one mo time! Fucking A
ratsalad, shakedown
In spite of some obnoxious people, I had a great time!!! I ended up moving from the hill and away from folks who wanted to talk/scream over the music. Basically, I smiled all night, met some really cool folks from Illinois who drove in for the show, saw some killer fireworks and felt like I was home again. Maybe I'm making myself sound old, but I remember when you took care of your friends that were really wasted. I miss those days. I got choked up a couple of times just from mssing my fun times following the guys all over, but I didn't dwell on what I was missing but stayed in the moment and fully enjoyed what was happening. It was magical for me and I hope for others.

got to bring the kids (13 & 14 year olds) to another midwest show (after last March's Chicago Auditorium!) This time they got to hang out on the rail in front of Phil: all night long!!! Other children on the rail, as well...we loved Phil's smiles~~ oblivious to the drunks on the hill, lucky us!

I was in the lawn and didn't see any more drunk individuals than I have at any other show. Actually the predominantly older crowd was pretty tame. As for the show it wasn't the epiphany folks seem to think. It was good but it had it's low points too. I remember Standing On The Moon sounding lost for the last several minutes. On the flip side, King Solomon's Marbles, Let It Grow and NFA were all very tight. Good show but don't look to get blown away...

First off Phil, you said the crowd was disrespectful so we "got the encore they deserved". Touch is a great song, it just needs to be sung by JJohn, completly, as do ALL Jerry songs. This show was musically sound, the band was very tight, some very nice grooves were heard, BUT in my opinion song selection was not so good. Does anyone else notice how slow Bucket is played these days? I felt like this was a low energy show-great music, just no where near song selection of the 3rd or 4th. I thought the Shakedown Jam was unreal, loved it. Also it seems like John has a different interpretation of the Let It Grow jam than Jerry did, I liked it though. And Bobby is most assuredly calling the shots and running the show. My wife and I are still thinking about and talking about what we saw backstage before the show-the group hug and group prayer/meditation. It was beautiful. I was hoping to hear some of the old 70's stuff we never got in the 80's and 90's, maybe next time. I wish those crazy Rythm Devils were with the band, but maybe in the future. And don't get me wrong I luv Bob, he does Bobby material like no one else, he has a great catalog to choose from, BUT Please Bobby leave the Jerry tunes to JJohn. The fans will appreciate it even more. Enjoyed Phil's Tom Thumbs Blues, some will say the played some rareities at this show, but any tour head has heard them many times. Not sure if I like the song that followed Scarlet or not though. I know it took alot for Bob to understand the need to bring JJohn in, he adds so much to this latest incarnation of the DEAD. And there still is nothing like a Dead show.

Wow! What a start to a wild weekend. I was DEEP on the little lawn...But enjoyed the show. My highlights: Loser and J.L.T.T.Blues. Man that new kid rocks.

All in all, the show was a blast. Great set list and well-played. Not perfect, but then again, when were the boys ever perfect? With regards to the "drunks on the hill" I can't comment, since I was down by the stage, but I remember dealing with my fair share of drunk and loud idiots from when I first started seeing them in 84 through the end. And, to be honest, the late 80s stadium shows brought out the worst in a lot of "fans." So, for those who had to deal with the idiots, my condolences to you...
Regarding the venue, it wasn't the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, but a small ampitheater attached to a bar. In fact, the bar encouraged fans to enter the venue through the bar (and, maybe grab a drink or two on the way). So, that may have helped increase alcohol consumption...
Getting to the show, I was especially happy with Brown Eyed Women (always a favorite), Scarlet B., Shakedown and Let it Grow. Plus, it didn't hurt that the Columbus fireworks show was going off during the Let it Grow jam. Fun...

I agree JJohn is an excellent addition. His enthusiasm has helped kick things up a notch. The comment about Hell in a Bucket slowing down, I couldn't agree more. That used to be one of my favorite openers. Peace, y'all.

This show was pretty decent. Most of us midwesties were at the 3/3 show last year, so we have all been kind of spoiled. I think that show set the bar pretty high for Furthur. With that said, I went into the show with lower expectations and was delightfully surprised. The boys had a great sound highlights were: Midnight Hour, BYE, Scarlet, Two Djinn, and of course comes a time. As far as the scene goes, we were on the 'floor' for first set, the only complaint I had was the nonstop beer wrangling. Every 5 minutes the same people were shoving their way through the crowd to get that sweet, sweet nectar!!! Second set we were up in the grass. The grass was a little sketchier. There were a lot of detached fans, I saw the cops/security come up there a few times. People just seemed out of it. On the other hand, I did see a lot of kids jamming in the lawn and singing to the songs, which I thought was cool! All in all, the show was good, kind of sad we didn’t get the real encore... owell... GRATEFULFEST was a blast tho!!!
