SMOKIN' SHOW!!!!! Solid first set, highlighted with hot Jack Straw. The second set just keep coming out you.. the Playin' opener was very tight. JK was really good. Kinda had a 72 sound to him. The Althea was sweet and then THE CAT/RIDER. Buckle your seat belts boys and girls because the boys put it into over drive. Chimenti really gets the 68/69 sound going on the China Cat. If that wasn't enough, look out to find the Eyes of the World. Real nice, but a little short IMO. Days between was a nice way to come back down to earth, only to be rocketed back into the fourth dimension with a killer Help/Slip/Frank!!!!! Of course they sent us home with a rockin' Sat. Nite where JK had that 72 sound working again. All in all, a great show. This guys seem to get better every time I see them. I'll keep coming back, as a matter of fact, I'll be there tonight with a new pair of dancin' shoes on because I wore out last nights pair. PEACE

I don't know if it was because they started late (bad traffic getting to stadium) but the boys were not really on A game tonight. It started really hot with Golden Road (tribute to crew working hard to get show off in time) followed by a great Here comes Sunshine and smoking Jack Straw. After a great start to the first set, it kinda came to a hault for me with Corrina, Satisfaction and Viola Lee Blues.
I was ready for a great second set and heard one of the worst Playing in the Bands I ever hear. It had no energy what so ever. The Althea was nice and crisp but the Cassidy had no punch to it. I was ecstatic to hear them twang China since China/Rider is my favorite tune!! They played it really well with lots of additional choruses but didn't deliver hard vocals. Eyes (by Phil) was very average and the days between put everyone to sleep. It was great to hear Help/Slip/Franklin's but when Phil got on vocals once again.....I was very disappointed! I looked at my buddys's and was like "is John okay tonight?" I think something wasnt right as there is no way Phil should have sung Eye's and Franklins. Sorry Phil, but Kinda a buzz kill if you want my honest opinion. Saturday night was okay....every show is a BLAST...but walked away a little disappointed. Jeff was on with the keys tonight, John slipped up a couple times and Bobby wasn't howling like normal. Hope they get it going tonight with a Sampson Sunday for you all. Nobody likes their shows more than me, just being 100% honest as some shows are obviously better than others!
The parking lot scene was A++!! Shakedown had it's full groove on and the scene was happening!!

I guess everybody has their own opinions - which makes all of this so fun. I thought the boys struggled a bit off the start - perhaps a bit worn down from all of the recent travel and consecutive shows. Phil even made mention of the days earlier 6 hour drive from WV. Seemed like they really found their grove with a solid VLB to end the first. Although all well done it was tough for me to sit through Corrina, Althea and Cassidy all in the same show...again, to each their own. The China>Rider alone was worth the price of admission. Looking forward to tonight.
BTW - I could be wrong but I though JK sang most of Eyes with Phil taking the chorus. In either case I thought Phil's vox were fine.

I agree A. West that China/Rider alone was worth the price of admission. Hell, any show is worth the price of admission. O would rather be at a Dead show than any other show, any day hands down! I just have been to enough Dead shows in my time to know when the boys are on and when they are not. Every Dead show is a GREAT TIME but not every show is as good as others musically.....
I love John and think he helps make this band something special. I wanted Warren gone and John in before they began touring as the Dead as I think DSO brought "it" every time I saw them. Tonight, the boys simply lacked that fire and intensity tonight which is totally understandable. No offense to Phil, but his lead vocal days are done and I have no problem saying it. That Days between KILLED the vibe of the second set and the worst Playing in the Band I ever heard to start didn't help. I looked out across the whole crowd and everyone was sitting on their hands and literally saw 6 people asleep during Days Between. I am all about bringing it down in the second set....but there is a difference between bringing it down and putting everyone o sleep.
When I go to a show these days, I am looking for them to bring their A game not necessarily "A" material which is always a bonus. Last night I heard two of my top songs in Jack Straw and China/Rider in a show in which they brought their B- game. Had a great time and enjoyed being there 100%...just being real.

Only have one thing to say PHIL WAS F###ING AWESOME!!!!

Great time, great scene, but not the best setlist... I was a bit bored by Cassidy, Satisfaction, VLB, and the Days Between... And WHY would they waste our time with a Corrina??? There are so many other hot songs to play IN PHILLY!!! As a wild east crowd, we are HERE for you... Play us a tune (Mr. Fantasy)- Somethin' to make us all HAPPY!!! Well, you did play us a nice Althea, a KILLER Rider, and a sweet Eyes... not to mention a swingin' Franklins... I'll take one more Saturday night of that ANY DAY!!! :) Peace.

Not planning to go originally, decided to go at last minute since tickets were still on sale and I needed a little bit more after so-so show at Nateva (to tide me over for Nokia). Could only go Sat night, and knew it would probably not be as good as Sunday, but better than nothing right? Biggest Furthur audience I've seen yet, parking lot was insane, never seen so much nitrous in my life, dropped to my knees at one point - couldn't go 10 feet without running into a tank, one big hiss.
Band came on late, with a heartfelt and unprecedented explanation from Phil. When they kicked into VLB after Satisfaction, thought they might do one long set to finish on time, but no, kept us until after midnight! Contrary to what some pointed out, I thought they played very well at times, best I'd seen/heard since Coney Island, although there were a few lulls where they dropped out of gear, only to pick it up again after a bit.
Highlights (for me) were Sunshine-out-of-Golden (no rain!), and China/Rider. Jackstraw (my third this tour) jam was early 1st set peak, and Corrina was funny as I'd been thinking about it the day before listening to "The Last Show". Satisfaction was my first ever, and went well with the gotta-see-one-more theme. Muli Guli doesn't do it for me, sadly, and even my wife commented it sounded like a good bathroom tune. No problem with new tunes, but this one ain't it. Fantasy always good, but time for JK follow through with Hey Jude..! Strange to close the set with VLB instead of Satisfaction, but there you have it.
High hopes for 2nd set, but first few songs seemed more like a good 1st set, with no segue jams until China/Rider. Playin' was perfunctory, but Althea was great, and Cassidy also good but dropped the pace a bit during the jam. Rider was incendiary, then another full stop before starting Eyes from scratch. Sounded like they were playing some oldskool "Space" before going into Days Between - another Nateva repeat, but appropriate after 7/9 anniversary. And then, where there's Eyes, can Frankin's be far behind? Of course not! Yet another HSF (when would we ever have said that?), but everyone did indeed roll it away, and a friend suggested it was a hometown plug for good ol' Ben and his cracked bell.
Not a bad Saturday night show, despite personal repeats and less than stellar setlist. Danced like I hadn't in years throughout the second set, however, and even got into the whole one mo' saturday night swing-of-things, shouting out the refrain with wild abandon at quarter-past midnight...(Phil introduced by asking "you know how we know it;s Sautrday night, right?").Definitely felt like I'd had my fill at that point, no compaints!
Didn't get home until 4, followed by an early wake-up and a long family-oriented day trip to Long Island, so Sunday night was out of the question. Followed the song tweets on DHL and philzone, knew it was gonna get stranger, and was ready to write out my suicide note after seeing the second set: Mountains, Blues For Allah, Terrapin pt. 2, Unbroken...mind left body indeed. Anyway, sad this morning, but glad for my friend who had 6 row seats for his first Furthur shows. He'd been kind of skeptical, so I hope last night changed his mind.
And now, the long wait until Times Square!

I guess I'm too easy. My feeling was that this show ranked up there w the last night @ the spectrum. Both shows that I could walk away and feel good, if it was the last time the boys were out. My only problem was Satisfaction, just seemed to lose the whole vibe for me, but was backup quick afterward.
Second set was smokin, and I was drenched when I walked out. I had never heard Days Between before, and for me, I was just taken by the emotion and blues of it all. When we all regrouped at the car, no one had a bad word, in fact, all were raving.
I don't go to see cover bands, so never saw Dark Star before. First set I was missing Warren, but by the second, I was fully on board w the new man. Damn he sounded like he was channeling at pts, and I wasn't on extra-curriculars ;-)

Caught the Utica show on the Winter tour (which has only improved with repeated listening) and was counting down the days to this Philly show. Was not disappointed.
For me at least, the first set opened really strong and with some good energy with Golden Road into Sunshine, followed up by a smokin' Jack Straw, but then kinda fell off the table until a pretty strong close with VLB. Had heard Satisfaction in Utica and could have done without it here to be honest, along with Muli Guli and Corrina for that matter.
Any first set letdown was more than made up by a very hot second. Playin was solid into a really nice Althea (my wife's fav) and Cassidy, but thrusters were set to full throttle for a kickin China/Rider. No let up with Eyes and Days Between. As an aside, I like the fact that newer tunes like Days from the GD canon were getting a workout. Some beautiful songs there that don't get enough play time IMHO. Thought they would be winding up, but were just getting started with an awesome Help/Slip/FT. Heard Sat Night the last Sat show I made (guess I need to get out on another night), so wandered down to get in line for my CDs of the show. Had no chance to make Sun's show, a peek at the setlists suggests Sat was the one.
Last two cents. Have watched Chimenti now for years with Ratdog, the Dead, and now Furthur, and he just keeps getting better and better. He was really on for this show and just love the sound he puts out. JK is a keeper as well. Sound is closer to Jerry than any stand-in so far, again IMHO, though could do with less of the vocals.
Until next time, cheers.

Awesome show! Was kind of funny to see Phil give away the closer! Never saw that before.

The highlight of this show for me was a heartbreaking and beautiful Days Between. One of the Dead's best songs of the later years, and they nailed it this night for sure. Just gorgeous. Other highlights were Althea, a fantastic China Cat > I Know You Rider and a terrific Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower to end. Satisfaction worked surprisingly well, but the real surprise was a Corrina that actually rocked. Typical Saturday night crowd, more interested in partying than listening to the music itself, but what can you do. The music was great.

The whole show was perfect......after seeing shows for 31 years, we are here...now....Bobby & Phil...you've been with us all along and we love ya like brothers...JK....the hell with the comparisons...the music is in your hands and you lead us to great place...JOE!!!...JOE!!! 'nuff said.....Jeff.....I'd listen to you play keyboards with ANY band-----Perfection....and last but NOT least...Sunshine & Jeff......the "icing on the cake"....thank you all for a beautiful and sweet night....SATIFACTION ROCKED!

Right there with you, GM from Philly. I know how Days Between is considered a set-killer but I've loved this song from the very beginning and if one were to be open-minded 'bout this particular performance, they would hear that this was an impassioned version where Jerry could have easily been smiling down with approval on the Mann on how well the band fleshed it out. Same with Corrina, easily one of the best versions I've ever witnessed and I danced to every second of it. Other than the sound issues in specific at the beginning of the 1st set and in general for the entire set, this was a legitimate dance-fest. AWESOME HC Sunshine, well jammed-out. Same for the Jack Straw. The Satisfaction was kewl but the set-ending Viola Lee Blues was superb, different from the ones I've previously heard by them and last year, someone (Bobby?) had some controlled feedback going on giving it a very sinister feel. F'ing excellent!
Playin' was interesting, strange to hear them do it in one shot from beginning to end as opposed to the old days where it always seemed to be split up but the Althea was hot hot hot and the Cassidy in a 2nd set slot is always a welcomed thing though it did seem to bog down a bit in the jam section. But as many have already stated, the China/Rider was slamming, the Days Between sublime and lets not forget the Space before it...:-wink/smile...and the H/S/F was, just like the NFA set-closer on Sunday, a musical love hug between band and audience. And believe it or not I was having such a good time that I totally forgot 'bout the Sat Night and by that point of the show did it really matter, LOL?!?!?!? All in all, an extremely solid show and one that would bode well for the one that would follow it...:-smile.
Peace,
Alex

Both nights were fantastic. Two wonderful days in the park with the boys. Please Please Please Please Please Please come back to the Mann in the Spring.....quite possibly the best two Furthur shows /snip besides Asbury Park last November / that I've seen. The only two outdoor Furthur shows I've seen thus far and they were magical. Thanks guys, can't wait to spend some time with you again in the near future!

Went to both shows and loved every minute of them. Show 1 highlights - Golden Road, Jackstraw, PITB, China-Rider, Eyes, HSF
Show 2 highlights - Shakedown, St. Stephen, Let it Grow, Morning Dew
Just to name a few. They keep rockin and get better every year!
