Was at Saturday and Sunday's show. Comparing to the rest of the tour it was a little behind, HOWEVER, from blues for Allah on last night was amazing. Some of the best yet! Just a quick commentary on Philly in general. Always an energetic crowd which is nice, However, there is a reason Philly is a step behind cities like NY and Boston on the evolution scale. Lay off the nitrous folks. Have been seeing the dead since 1989 an that was the most nitrous I've ever seen. It ruins the scene!

Went to the first show at the Mann in Philly.........very nice Shakedown, good vibe, and the man was sleepy. Bobby, Phil and the boys(and girl) were Dead on! I loved Rider>Eyes in the second set! Satisfaction was not that satisfying, though. First set started w/Golden Road and Sunshine......Very nice! I miss them already!!!!!!!!

The traveling circus blew through Philly and in its wake they left a smoker of a show. This band laid down some real good shit tonight. These guys are a very tight band and they gave each other all the space they wanted to stretch the music out. The set list can't show the weaving in and out of Blues for Allah during the second set. The venue is superb, from the staff to the ease of getting refreshments. The view of the entire city from the top of the hill is like no other place to capture it. The Mann hasn't seen the likes of what went on here since Jerry played there in '84. The shakedown street scene was huge and to restate a post I saw from yesterday, I could not believe how much N2O was being offered for sale there............Such a night.

Smoking smoking smoking!!!!! even the afternoon weather!!!
The band was tight as hell!! JK laid down "THE BEST" morning dew of the tour so fare!!!! The highlight of the show for sure!!!!! Blues for allah and teripin suite were amazing also...
Never saw so much nitrous....Even the 5o were turning their back to the dealers.
See you all in NYC!

Adam - I hear ya man! Its all these young kids. We went to David Grisman bluegrass experience this weekend and, you know, the show is acoustic, heck they are not even plugged into amps. Well these kids talked and yapped the whole concert of course standing right in front of us. You could barely hear the music over their loud mouths. On top of it all, Grisman was giving the audience an oral history of bluegrass evolution in between songs and these disrespectful cretins had the nerve and gall to scream "Shut up and play"!! To David Grisman! I was shocked. If they would have just shut the fuck up and listen they could have learned something from the man himself. But no, these kids think they know everything when really they are clueless and give dead heads a bad rap.

their a band beyond description!...yikes i think im sold on these guys .that was the best show/scene ive heard or been at since 1990.the playing was inspired and the tune selection was great.i also like that john is not really aping jerry that much,he uses alot more effects and he plays longer notes than jerry not so bubbly but it works, great energy at show.how long can this go on.and how good can they get?man really felt like the old days,

The boys rebounded quite nicely from the schmooze-fest I witnessed a couple of days ago in Buffalo. These two gigs had what Buffalo didn't: First, inspiration. Secondly, passion and thirdly, execution. Knew they could still do it...:-wink/smile.
I called the long-overdue Stranger opener and they had the good taste of following it up with a shakin' Shakedown. The Alligator was quite tasty in its own right, Money4Gas burnt the stage up then Mag Mountain softly took us to heaven whrere they finished off my Philly wish list with a slammin' Sailor/Saint and a set-ending Midnight Hour. Just exactly perfect...
...that is, until the one, long note that was the second set. Best Mtns of the Moon I've ever heard ether live or Memorex opened up the final set of the Summer East Coast run followed by a full-audience participation of St Stephen followed by a really tripped-out Blues For Allah. The Terrapin reprise was, well I really don't have any words for it other than it just simply blew me away. The Let It Grow was well fleshed-out and jammy. Somewhere during all of this I turned to my friend Daniel and whispered "...you know, the Dew is coming...". Well, you betcha! Worth the price of admission alone, so glad it was surrounded by all that other great music. Such as another great Unbroken Chain, this song in particular has gained so much power & beauty under this particular band's handling of it. The Wheel continued to spin us out and NFA was as celebratory as it could be, band and audience sharing the love as one. Brokedown was a sweet way to send us off on our way and the sustained applause as the band was departing the stage gave me one final run of goose-bumps.
Thanks to the cool heads that sat next to us on both nights that allowed me for the most part to be able to concentrate on the music and thanks to the band and the venue for just letting us be, easily one of the coolest outdoor venues I've ever visited. All of the stars alligned nicely for this weekend together...:-smile.
Peace,
Alex

First of all, there is such a difference between Philly and VA. We ALL would have been in jail in VA, So hat's off to Philly.
Alligator , Midnight Hour and Mountains of the Moon were all firsts for this 24 year veteran of shows, as were the Blues for Allah and Terrapin Flyer segments. The show was very generous in length and songs, and good Lord did they play their asses off.
I would agree that Kadlicek is putting a lot of himself in the solos and they are his own now.
I must admit I cried when they played such a lovely Morning Dew. It really is such a cathartic song and it reminds me of everybody we've lost. I thought that was the capper, but the hits just kept coming.
I get to see a show once or twice a year. I'm so glad I saw this one.

I agree with many of you. The Nitrous scene in the parking lot was ridiculous. Wake up people, you are killing yourselves very quickly. A bunch a brain dead idiots.
This band is incredible. They are so damn tight and the music is intense. Morning Dew almost blew the roof off of the Mann. It was one of the best i have ever heard. Reminded me of the 77 Dews. The unbroken Chain jam at the end was magnificant. It was so powerful and beautiful. John K has given these guys new life. Bob and Phil are amazing and i am so glad they worked out thier differences. There are not many bands out there that can hold thier own against these guys. Keep it going guys. Thank you for everything you do.

Philly is very deadhead friendly. Always was and still is.
As for the show last night. God Dam SMOKEN!! Tight as hell. All you needed to see was the smiles on Phil and Bobbys faces. John was on fucken FIRE! Jerry was even dancing above us with a smile on his face durning morning dew. (John my never be able to play that so perfect again in his live) I saw tears on some faces during it. Joe Russo on the other hand almost stole the show on Blues for Allha & Terapin flyer. His playing way masterfull.
GOOSE BUMPS people..>.. all GOOSE BUMPS after that show!!!!
As a vet of almost 14 years on the road with the dead until 95. THE VIBE IS BACK PEOPLE>>>THE VIB IS BACK!!!! FURTHUR ON!!!

The show was amazing. I've never had a better dancing experience. Chill out on the nitrous though. It's making the dead crowd look bad. Rock on furthur. You showed me an amazing night.
you know, shakedown st
This show was so worth the trip from boston on sunday afternoon! Got to the lot madness around 6 and got a ticket for face right away. Stranger-shakedown-alligator was insane to open the show.entire first set was solid. 2nd set was just a great musical performance with morning dew putting things in perspective. Loved the venue, band was tight and crowd was kind, can't ask for much more. Hope to get back to the Mann soon, man.

This band is on fire! They get better and better with every passing show. For any doubters out there just tune in to this 'Dew and listen to the Drama unfold. Not unlike the 2/14/10 Barton Hall version, this emotional 'Dew culminates with a sheet-grasping, back-scratching, earth-moving instrumental orgasm. You're going to need a cigarette afterword.
Keep up the amazing work guys. And, if I may, please bring back the spring tour's sleeping gem, "Nobody Girl", hands-down the best cover tune you've performed.
Cheers!

Both shows were way awesome. Mellow yet hoppin on Saturday. Hippy and Trippy on Sunday.
It was Further Family Fun Day on Saturday. The kiddies LOVED it.
Althea was amazing.
The Mann is a wonderful place to be at. They should play all of their shows at the Mann.
Until the next time the circus comes to town ...

Does anyone agree that they have a stop watch at 10 minutes on the jam songs. Love JK, but he puts one good solo on eyes, fire, franklins, etc...not after every verse. How about a 20 minute fire or franklins like in the day.
CG, Wisconsin
CG, I don't believe they have a "stop watch" on the jams, rather they have it on the songs themselves. They're walking out with a setlist and seem to be determined to get to the songs on it. Yes, perhaps to the detriment of the show itself sometimes (see Buffalo...:-wink/frown) but all I know is that I'm walking in as open-minded as possible and with the aforementioned exception of Buffalo, IMHO, they're executing very very well nowadays. Furthur is a different beast than the previous post-GD incarnations and if one were to read some of the interviews posted on Furthur.net, it is clear that Phil & Bob wanted to be free of some of the "expectations" that is often placed on them.
Would it be cool if they were to do a 20 minute Fire? Sure! But personally I'm loving what they're doing right NOW, just trying to stay "in the moment" and I've had too many great "moments" with this band to want to ask to change things. Greatness comes in many forms and to my ears, Sunday's show@the Mann was as great of a show as this band could achieve for my money and participation.
Ultimately, CG, I can't agree with you but I certainly respect your view. I believe I've found, once again, what I was looking for from this current incarnation and I hope at some point you find what you're looking for, too...:-smile.
Peace,
Alex

Been drooling at the chance to hear these two philly shows but no one has put anything on archive.org yet......did the Mann not allow tapeing or r people just recovering slowly? Can't wait to hear them.
To anyone working on it.....a huge thank you.

Shows were fantastic. this is one really tight band.
The saddest thing i saw all day on Sunday was a little girl maybe 6-8 years old doing nitrous before the show while her brain dead parents were next to her selling tshirts on shakedown. I am not a violent person, but i wanted to knock the parents heads together. I let them have it big time. I am still wondering whiy i am the only person who said something. Wake up people and if you see this kind of shit, stop it.

You just can't grasp the full significance of "St. Stephen" until you are standing in the middle of 3 or 4 thousand of them, singing it at the top of our lungs!
Great venue, great people, great music!
A shout out to the folks on the balcony from the guy with the suspenders!
Cheers!

Only saw the 1st show, and although I had some disppointment with too much Bob, it was still very enjoyable. The things that make this work are a) there isn't a better Jerry replacement, JK knows all the songs and has the sound down, and b) they pull out all kinds of stuff that I remember WISHING they would do just one maybe two of these babies at some point. Golden Road, Here Comes Sunshine, Viola Lee Blues. Now if I would have seen one of these songs in the mid 70's or 80's, I would have freaked out. So although the comparisons are made, we have a lot to be grateful for, I'm thrilled to see these obscure songs, and delighted that they kick very smooth, tasteful spot on improvisational transistions. This all does fill the void of the Grateful Dead's absence. My complaint the 1st night was - yea they played great songs in the 2nd set, but they were just jams. Where were the trips? But afterwards, all things considered, my feelings changed because it was just great music, good times, and connects me with my love of the past. Kudos Furthur, although in my 50's I'll still be checking you out when you come around. Please make it to Baltimore sometime.
Oh and for all the complainers of the Nitrous? Chill out ok? It's harmless enough, sold and done, who cares? It didn't change the essence of anything, the scene was excellent, good art, good food, good people, good vibe. The only thing that was sorry was the fact that I could not make it to the 2nd show. See you all furthur on!

This is what I've been waiting for my whole life. I've always heard about 'the vibe' and been to many shows that have come close but nothing, and I mean nothing compares to these 2 days of pure heaven on earth! Shakedown was just the soup and salad to my experience and the city of brotherly love sure did live up to its name (was a little worried) the vibe-iest place I have been ever...security was so laxed I even caught a guard dancing and the cops were not like in jersey (pnc arts center) just swarming truly let us hippies do out thing...so beautiful and the music was stellar. Thanks to everyone there for filling the Mann with so much love (the way it should be)!!!

Well, first of all, great show on Saturday night! I came looking for a great show, and I got nothing less of that! However, I've listened to past Grateful Dead shows back in their prime, and they have really cut back on some of their jams. As much as Viola Lee Blues rocked, I was looking for like a 20 minute jam or something like that, and the jam only lasted 8 minutes. It might be because I'm 17, somewhat new to the Dead, and possibly ignorant to the history, but if I had a choice, I'd rather have seen them back then, not only because they were in their prime and had Jerry, but also because they didn't hold anything back. This doesn't mean I'm going to stop going to Furthur shows, because it doesn't. I'm only saying that I want to hear the Grateful Dead that once had that chemistry.

His timing and guitar playing was atroscious pathetic and embarrassing to the rest of the musicians in the band. Bobby please get the help you need. You took about 1.4 million out of the gig and dead heads traved from LA to see the show. I saw the shows since 1967 and will not return again . But my concern for you as a human being has more to do then a gig. Please get the medical help you need.
