Heard about the Bobby fiasco the night before but Bobby and the boys more than made up for it last night.
These guys are pros and the musicianship displayed last night was impressive. Get a copy of this show. WoW : )

Bob, L.I. NY
First off, the drama regarding Bobby reached a fever pitch when we were waiting on line to get in. Does he have health issues? Did he actually have a stroke last night during El Paso? NO - he was just drunk!!

The fact that Bobby was back on his game was evident within the first 5 minutes of the show, which, on the whole, was average for what they've been churning out of late. There were some great moments in set 1 - Aligator > Jed was fantastic. Bobby was darting in and out of the ragtime jam, John was wailing and Jeff was playing like it was the county fair. Reuben & Cherise was nice too - punchy. They seemed to have morphed that into a Scarlet-like number, with a caribbean flavor at the end. Could have used a rollickin' set-capper like a Deal or Casey.

Set 2 has it's moments as well, but they couldn't quite build a real head of steam. Bobby seems to like opening set 2 with slow numbers, which to me is a waste. So Many Roads was played very well, but it is much easier to connect when you've already expended some energy on a few typical second set blockbusters like Truckin', China Rider or Help > Franklin's. Other than that, Mr. Fantasy and Goin' Down the Road were standouts.

What gets me every time about Phil is his effort - he is ALWAYS attentive and intent on adding to the music. You can't fake his energy up there.

I'll see the boys again soon.

I went both nights. Most people have heard by now about the Bobby melt down the first night. Was glad that Phil acknowledged it in some opening remarks the second night. We might never know what really happened. Whatever it was, it seems to be isolated to that one night.

I’ve seen this band 7 times across 3 tours and would have to agree that the second night was just average for this band. That said it was still substantially better then the night before. The first night was just a train wreck.

Bottom line is that I hope Bobby is well and we get to see many more shows from this band.

Phil Lesh if he was really Bobby's brother should of stopped the show gave a refund and get Bobby Weir the help he needs. That's BS people were on line from LA for that show and cost big bucks to see the concert. I have seen the Dead since the 60's and I will never go to another show again. Just saying something about it isn't enough Phil. With your donor raps every show look at the man to the left of you screaming out for help with his problem. I feel violated by that show and I spent $ and a day of my time to go in and see that is BS. Weir is a human being who obviously has a problem .2100 people witnessed it you can't just blow it off and the band pull down the $ from the gig is simply wrong.

Flew up to NYC to catch the first night. I have never seen Weir like this. What a shame. The true animation left Bobby years ago. As much as I love seeing these guys, dying with some dignity was all I could think of.

Brett, Memphis, Tennessee
I agree with Dire Wolf.....I have been to so many shows on both coasts and not all of them were "pearls".....how many times did we see Jerry sometimes "not all there"...but we forgave him because ALL OF THIS is a work in progress...always has been...always will be...if you want to see cookie-cutter rock shows there are plenty of other bands that will gladly take your bucks. These guys gave their all for over 45 years...and continue to give it to us....as long as we give it back. Bobby had a bad day/night....big friggin' deal. The other posts above that want an apology/money back/whatever...go... the DH scene doesn't need you. The last thing I'll say is....those of you that live in glass houses shouldn't be throwin' stones.....ain't a single one of us that's perfect........Thank you Bobby, Phil, John, Jeff, Joe, Sunshine & Jeff.......thank you for continuing to do what you do! Peace!

I was at the Wednesday night show. First, the show was actually pretty good. Sure, El Paso was an abomination, and yes, Bobby should not go on stage when he's the most wasted person in the building. But the boys still sounded good on many of the songs and it looked to me like most of the people in my vicinity were having a very good time. Second, I'm calling BS on this website for not taking reviews on the 7/28 show. What's that about? Are we really going to pretend that the Bobby Incident didn't happen? I know people like me are talking about it here, but why are we being reduced to that? Man up, folks. Third, anyone swearing off Furthur because one of its members showed up drunk....are you serious? This band is truly special...why let one very fouled up night and one half baked apology drive you away? Imagine that, a drunk rock star! And by the way, when was the last time anyone ever heard anyone apologize for a bad performance. I still haven't heard Queen LeBron beg for forgiveness for mailing it in against the Celtics....

Go Furthur!

Mike, Passaic
Could anybody that WAS AT the show on Wed. please ellaborate on the Bobby situation..sounds kind of scary??...And I agree let the reviews flow for that show the website should not feel the need to hide things....

I'm totally with Mike from Passaic on this one and for Air Jordan 23 from Wisconsin, I'll try to elaborate on Wednesday a bit.

After Shakedown started Wednesday, Bobby stepped up to the mike for BE Women and immediately struggled with the lyrics. Of course, what makes this all the more interesting is that he has the Teleprompter so, yes, flubbing a line or two is one thing but it was evident that he was having more than the "senior" moments that he typically has had over his ENTIRE career, we ALL know and have been there for those. The crowd ended up singing the rest of the show and, at least for me, it was kind of funny at first. That was until the next song, El Paso. One can forgive Bob for BE Women to a certain extent, not his song per se but his stepping up to the mic at least three times for El Paso and only being able to barely sing the first line at each attempt and then having to step away looking completely disoriented, this now was not your "typical Bob senior moment" and it became very evident very quickly that he was having some real difficulties. El Paso basically became an instrumental and during this time I noticed a grimace on Phil's face that spoke volumes. The rest of the set was spent trying to cover up Bob's inabilities to perform and the two songs that he was asked to perform lead vocals on, Miracle and the set ending Good Lovin' were probably the two worst vocal versions of those songs that I've unfortunately have ever had to witness and whatever momentum the band had from the opening of the show was replaced by a rather negative buzz during intermission 'bout what was going on with Bob and a genuine concern among many of us for his health and well-being. That being said, he was a heck of a lot better in the 2nd set (though that may not been saying much, LOL!) but I really don't think that they were ever able to capture the feel-good vibe that Shakedown started with, though I thought that the 2nd set was well-played, Music having a snap, crackle and pop to it due to John's outstanding lead axe playing, Colors of the Rain (my first) was beautiful and Cassidy having a pretty good mid-song jam. My personal highlight of the set was the slammin' CR&S, I'm ALWAYS up for this song and it's placement in this set was "just exactly perfect" for me...:-wink/smile. The rest of the set was IMHO really well played and made up for the lacklusterness of the 1st set. BTW, for those that were pissed off due to various reasons such as traveling, monies spent etc., I'm not going to discount your feelings. Rather, I ask you'all to consider (unfortunately) how many times Jerry stepped onto the stage in a similar condition and how many shows you would have not done afterwards if he were held to the same standard. Yeah, it sucked but my feeling has always been that redemption is only a show away and, fortunately, to my ears Thursday was that show. Though I personally thought the first three songs (Dancin>Celebration>Alligator) were kind of a weak beginning, I felt that the show started to crank up a bit with the T.Jed. Reuben and Cerise (which my friend Jordan called before the show began) was and is always welcomed to these ears, the Money4Gas was its usual energetic self, the 1/2 Step was well sung/played/jammed out and the set ending Let It Grow was one of my favorite post-Jerry versions ever, John giving it his own spin on it and rocked it hard.

Just like the beginning of the 1st set, I wasn't overly impressed with the beginning of the 2nd set with the So Many Roads (a song I truly love but this version seemed to never build up to much of anything, either vocally or instrumentally) and the Seven Hills of Gold (my first) seemed like a pale rip-off of Black Throated Wind without the musical fireworks. But the rest of the set was what I chase a band like this down for despite it being my set list from hell and I say that 'cause we all have our favorites and most of the songs in the rest of the set I could have done without (with the exception of UC and Death Don't Have No Mercy) but you would not have been able to tell by how hard I danced to the rest of the set and that is because IMHO they absolutely played the songs to the best of their ability and one has to dance to that, at least I did...exceptional versions of Dark Star, UC, TO1, The 11, DDHNM, GDTRFB and ending in a truly sweet And We Bid You Goodnight where I was ready to burst into tears at its conclusion as I almost did at the end of UC. The Touch of Grey was a nice and celebratory way to end this show and its irony was not lost on me in light of Bobby's difficulties the prior night. All in all, a rather historic two night run@the Nokia though not for all the right reasons...:-wink/smile. May this band's Higher Power continue to shine a light on them...

Peace,
Alex

Not sure at all why this FAN SITE will not it's FANS post a review on Wednesday night's show. Hey, it happened, we all know about it by now, everyone's seen it on YouTube. Not cool.

LOL, Alex, having been at that show with you, I can't resist pointing out how different some parts of a show can seem to the next person. I had the exact opposite reaction to Dancin/Celebration/Alligator and T-Jed, seeing the latter as kind of the wrong gear change after the starting trio. Dancin' to me was Bob's way of showing he was back 110%, and I love those 'disco dancins' they're doing (just hoping for the oldschool intrumental hook). Alligator could have easily gone into something else, and it seemed that going into country-western mode didn't work either night (i.e. Brown-Eyed/El Paso after Shaekdown). I also thought 1/2-Step and Let it Grow were great, and really liked 1/2 -Step in that late-set slot. I'm with you on all of your 2ns set observations, and granted, I caught most of it in the lounge, sacrificing sound (you can always hear it again) for big-screen close-up visuals, keeping my wife company as she rested her aching legs. Went back inside for GDTRFB and WBYG, and hit the floor for the most enjoyable/spirited Touch of Grey I ever saw, including from Jerry, and which had added sentimental significance as it became apparent it was now about Bobby and his "senior moment" the night before.

Regarding the previous night, I agree with the people who are opting to cut Bob and the band as much slack as they need/deserve, and leaning towards the accidental intoxication theory as opposed to the Bobby-needs-an-intervention theory. He clearly hit some sort of a groundswell during El Paso, which wore off enough for him to do a satisfactory job on Miracle, and although Good lovin' was weak, he was back in form for Music and the rest of the second set, which as Mike points out, was actually pretty decent. Instead of focusing on the El Paso incident as a fiasco, the people in my area saw it as a humorous and even touching display of vulnerability from one of our long-time heroes, to be overcome by love and support, not criticism and condemnation. If you saw it this way, then Bob's gracious bow to the audience when he took the stage the second night, and Phil's light-hearted explanation for something we may never really know the truth about, made perfect sense. If you don't really love them, then why do you keep going to see them?

I witnessed a bob meltdown at bonnaroo in 07 playing with the Mule. I love bob, to see him as drunk as the crowd, is a unique experience and one you don't forget. While it might be a musical failure, he's one of us and we gotta appreciate that and be thankful. Keep it between the lines Ace!!! See you at Red Rocks!!

I was just curious, for the pure sake of caring for Bobby... Anybody that judges can f*ck off...Anyone has a bad day or bad moments and is not perfect every day...People should lay off of him for having a "longer than usual" Bobby "moment"...Most people his age cant even walk down to the mailbox and get their morning paper, and this guy is giving his energy for hours at a crack at a concert...I agree with whoever said that people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones..

I was at Wednesday's show and yes, it looked like Bobby had too much to drink. It was actually comical and I got a kick out of it. For those that thinks he needs help just remember that he has issues like all of us. I doubt he planned on getting drunk just to create this buzz. What started out as 2 maybe led to 12. I know I've had days where they just taste good (although usually not before work). But hey, he's in a different kind of business. Overall, while not the greatest show I've ever seen, it wasn't the worst either. There were some good moments. I've seen the boys just not have their hearts in it some nights when they all appeared sober. I definitely give him a pass on this.

I've witnessed a Bob meltdown at San Jose in 2008. I know he was drunk 'cause I bought him his first few drinks (still have the bottle we finished). 2 CAN turn into 12 sometimes when you're hanging with your loyal fans who unthinkingly buy you drinks...

wed. nites show was clearly a tuff first set with the band covering for bobby. the second set was i thought excellent with a great cold rain and snow, a mesmerizing stella blue and a terrific uncle johns band. john k. was just awesome. also these people who are condemning bobby for an off nite, should realize that bobby and phil are nothing short of saints, as they have given us great live music forever and we are all still enjoying it to the max. everyone has an off day at work -people who are copping an attitude on wed. nites nokia show are just plain stupid and ungrateful. bobby is a living legend and we should support him at every turn . love you bobby

Let's give Bob the benefit of the doubt whether he was pranked and involuntarily dosed or dosed himself or took too much of his own medication.....it wasn't booze-- he's not falling over like a drunk-- he is spaced.

It's over-- no refunds-- I watched the Grateful Dead trying to tune their guitars for 30 minutes nearly 40 years ago they were (mostly) all tripping and they took ten minutes between songs to discuss what's next how do we feel etc etc as Bob scratched his head trying to re-tune his guitar repeatedly and Jerry had a smoke or two. That's partly why the shows back then were six hours or longer.

That was normal then. Bob screws up one time in 2010 and everyone is having a cow. Sorry but these guys have given me the joyful experience of nearly 150 shows and you don't abandon the best touring rock musicians in American history over one night in the big apple when they had one intoxicated singer and there's enough remaining talent to go on with the show.

Bob you are still the chief and I know you are a pro through and through and you will do whatever is needed to avoid a repeat of "Nokia Wednesday"

Give me (and Bobby) a break. Would the critical posters like to disclose the intoxicants they used before and at the show.....please.

In the interim does anyone have a gripe about 2010 Furthur at Penns Peak ? the Sherman ? or Philly Mann I and II ? because I know I don't-- I saw and heard them all and they were all great especially the Sherman and the band ALMOST never disappoints you.....

Bobby I will be there when you get back here on the east coast.....just look for my spinning bandana.....you've seen me up front [and I've retreated to the back center] for almost four decades now..... abandon ship ? not me......furthur onward !
