Smokin Show....Band was full of energy and the crowd didn't disappoint. Venue was an old classic hockey rink(kind of like you'd see in the slapshot movie)...The boys opened up with Playin in the band and ripped through some classics finishing up with a sweet Jack Straw, which you just felt comin....2nd set kicked off with Lost Sailor>St. of Circum(very slick considering Charleston is a classic Sailors town and has the most Church Steeples in the Country).....Help>Slip>Franklins had us Dancin our asses off....closed with Masterpiece(since we were in the Collisium) and Revolution(first battle of the Civil war was fought in Chucktown)......WOW!

Noo .. Did they play Spanish Jam??
The first set looks just awesome... Open w/ Playin and ending the set with Jack Straw with 3 **blues** songs in between .. how cool

Denver Man, Colorado
Fun rockin' show. Attentive audience. The band was willing to explore and take some risks with the jams.
Here's the breakdown for those who care to read about this stuff:
Playin' - Self-contained PITB, nice exploratory jam to start the show
Alabama Getaway - pure rock and roll, first of a few "southern" songs
Dire Wolf - nice, everyone singing along and glad to hear it
Big Bad Blues - Bobby's newest song, bluesy of course, not a bad tune, but fairly low energy comparatively...but...
Cumberland Blues - as BBB finished Phil picked up the pace by playing notes that could only mean a monster CB was on the way. Cumberland was fast and smokin'
Deep Elem Blues - Fun deep elem. another southern sing along that pleased the crowd
Magnolia Mountain - Uh..bathroom break time, beer line? snack? I don't like the ryan adams covers these guys play, so for me this was easily the low point. boring...let ryan keep these songs for himself. I'm open to interesting covers, but this doesn't interest me.
Jack Straw - Well, after the set's low point the boys climbed to the high point by closing the set with a thunderous Jack Straw that was jammed out with intensity.
Set II
Lost Sailor>Saint - Appropriate nautical theme for Charleston. Driftin' and dreamin' all the way. I really enjoyed this beautiful Lost Sailor. Lost Sailor was perfect! Saint of Circumstance got people clapping and dancing and ready for the second set.
No More Do I - Phil and friends song. Okay song, flowed into a little PITB jam and into...
Because - This was really beautiful. Nice harmonies and psychedelic instrumentation on this Abbey Road song. They pulled it off quite nicely.
New Potato Caboose - Awesome. So cool to hear Anthem of the Sun material played perfectly. More beautiful harmonies with the back up singers helping out like they did on Because.
Saint Stephen - After the psychedelia the band kicked into high gear. Saint Stephen was super tight the whole audience was exploding with energy. Nicely jammed, strongly finished
Spanish Jam - I was so excited to hear the first notes of this lovely jam. Spanish Jam is awesome and I was not expecting it. I love The Eleven, but was just as happy to hear Spanish Jam instead. We danced a tango during this piece, literally, tango!
The Mountain Song - New to me. Phil sung it I think. Nothing too impressive. Second set low point.
Help/Slip/Franklin's Tower - Great way to close the set. Everything perfect. Plenty of nice Garcia-like lead guitar throughout.
Masterpiece - Perhaps a little slowly played, but still a well played heartfelt Masterpiece. more nautical references.
It feels so good to hear Bob sing this song.
Revolution - fun to hear. At first I thought it was going to be Cosmic Charlie as the first few notes of both songs are similar.
Cool to hear revolution. Bob might have fumbled the lyrics a little bit.
Overall a great, well played show. The sound was excellent and clear. Sometimes I think Furthur uses too much of Jeff's keyboard lead where there should be lead guitar. For example after Bob sings "on the run" in Jack Straw, I like the guitar to kick in right away like the way Jerry played it instead of having piano first. However, at this show the balance of lead guitar and Jeff's keyboard lead was appropriate and didn't bother me.
Furthur seems to be in top form. They played with good energy and seemed to be having fun. Great energy and attentiveness from the audience also. If Furthur keeps up this level of playing they'll surely have happy fans.
(Yes Denver Man, a true Spanish Jam)
