Hey Now! What a show! The boys were HOTTTT! So many hotties at the MANN> best place to see a show.
starfoxxx, delaware
Fire. Most. In all respects. My friend Vicky mentioned on the ride home that somewhere during the night she glanced over to me and noticed that I was literally dancing in a pool of my own sweat, that the sweat was pouring off my elbows, my nose, my head.
And it was all good. They came to play and I came to dance. And though I thought at times that my internal organs were going to shut down cause I couldn't drink enough water to replenish what I was sweating out ultimately, LOL, it was a great night to boogie on down at the Mann. They love Philly. And they proved it once again, both with setlist and execution.
Sittin On Top of the World howled out first then paired up with Greatest Story, love how they're jamming it out now.
High on a Mountain was another new song that I was looking forward to hearing again, really well played. And, yes, it sure was a long, hard climb. Thanks, Bobby, for reminding us...:-wink/smile.
Reuben and Cerise, really don't have to say much more, do I? Loser was a Philly sing-along, Tbe Last Time made a relatively rare but welcomed appearance and Quinn made for a very celebratory way to end a get down and dirty set with the boys.
My intermission was spent on a mission, to buy water. It became a very precious commodity and I knew that without it, I would not be able to enjoy the 2nd set proper so after going to 4 conncessions stands and asking each one whether they had water and getting no for an answer, finally on the 5th try I did and purchased six for myself and my friends. I would not have been surprised if they sold out of it before the show was over...:-frown.
2nd set was more of the down and dirty, sometimes that's what happens when you're on Shakedown Street. This one was one of the better ones witnessed and Philly was all over it.
Then they reminded us who's the boss. Women Are Smarter, indeed!
Have they done Any Road this year? If so, can't have been too many times, this is a great little rock and roll romp. Then school really began with PITB, another down and dirty version and same for the Help/Slip that followed it, another beast of a version but unlike last week's stellar version this one did steer into Franklin's Tower.
I thought that they were going to wait until the end of the set for the PITB Reprise but it came out of Franklin's and then the final acknowledgement of Brent's last show 21 years ago@Tinley Park came in the form of Death Don't Have No Mercy, this one dripped with pathos.
They sure love to play In The Midnight Hour in Philly, eh? Allm good. But what REALLY good was Led Zep's Fool In The Rain to open up the encore, made the night complete. One More Saturday Night and then the band was all packed and gone, were they ever here at all...:-wink/smile.
Just like Bethel the prior Saturday, they left very little if anything on the musical table. Just like Bethel, great seats, great people around us, great music produced from the stage, great sound and lights provided by the crew and great leaving us alone by the venue made for another great night.
Thank you, Vicky, for your friendship. Thank you, Mann, for letting us be. And thank you to the boys and girl of the band. I'll happily continue to sweat if they continue to play barn-burning shows like this one.
Peace,
Alex

This show was more than likely the last one I'll see of
them. I've seen alot of the shows over the past 20 mnths,
and this was brutally sad at best.
Some of the songs sounded as if a 10yr old was learning how to play them.
Rolling out cover after cover. Thought that Women are smarter was a sucky pick 30 yrs ago,and still feel the same
today.
Don't these guys have a huge catalog to choose from as
far as keeping it fresh?
Maybe the encore every nite should be Money,Money,
maybe that hits too close to home, or maybe the wheels
are falling off the cart.
Whatever the case may be, they rolled over the same old tiresome stuff with little or no conviction.
truly insulting.

J.N., southampton,pa
Wow, J.N. from southampton, pa must be a miserable person with absolutely no personality or knowledge of music. It's quite ironic that everyone I talked to aside from my own experience at the Mann show said it was absolutely fantastic. But then you always get these grumpy folks that want to long for the old days when it was how they remembered. Gee, they do covers because they're not trying to recreate the same thing they did for the last 40+ years nitwit. You obviously haven't been seeing them in the last few years because then you'd know that they pull from deep within their catalog. Did it ever occur to you that maybe you just happened to be at a show where they chose to do some Stones and Dylan songs? I've seen more than 20 Furthur shows in since 2009 and they always vary greatly. I think the point is that Bobby and Phil are trying to mix it up and keep it fresh for themselves and the fans. They're not trying to re-live the past.
BTW, Women Are Smarter is a great song and they did it masterfully. I was shocked and super pumped for The Last Time which I think may be a Furthur first. But people like J.N. from southampton PA want to relive their old glory days and they want Bobby and Phil to represent something for them that existed 20 or 30 years ago. You know what j.n., folks like you are better off staying home and sitting on the couch all night because the rest of us want to have fun. Self-centered folks like you with poor attitudes are a drag for the rest of us.
It's ironic that you're posting on a site that also allows you to do some research to see just how many songs they've been playing. Last year they played over 1,460 songs, 196 different songs.........
So in closing, thanks from the bottom of my heart that you won't be going to any more shows because the rest of us would probably prefer not to have such miserable people there. BTW, talk about 10 year olds, you're run-on sentences and stream of consciousness relfects the writing and thoughts of a 10 year old.

Not sure what show J.N. went to but it cannot have been the Mann Center show. The band was kicking right out of the starting gate. The first set was great -especially liked the opening Sitting and Greatest Story, but Bob was all over the Dylan covers as well. The second set was a monster however, maybe the best I've seen since Coney Island last year. They killed on Shakedown, I thought they were going into Iko but the ladies loved the Women that followed instead. Playing wasn't jammed out as much as it could have been, but no complaints when they went into H>S>F, especially the weird and lengthy slipknot jam. Then Bobby killed again on Death and Midnight Hour. A definite Bobby show. The Zep encore was great, would not have though of this as a Dead song, but it worked amazingly well. The OMSN that followed was entirely unnecessary (but fun anyway). We were up in the loge where it was - no sh*t - 110 degrees. By the end no one had shirts on, not even the ladies, and the sweat was pooling in my shoes. Hot night, another hot show in Philly.

Ok hotter than lava outside, this was my hottest show ever, The alpine 88 dust bowl, the terrapin shows in 2002 at Alpine again but the Mann was 103F. Is phil an alien? he was wharing a long sleeve shirt? I have seen the band since the Fox & feel I have a good understanding of the band. they are touring with the largest songbook they have ever done. Songs never thought to be heard again played really well & with a new vigor not seen since or before. I love that there still is something to say with these songs, as for the dude who thought it sucked, well he can be a purest & not able to find the Jam in any show no matter how small. I think they were true to their form that night, I thought the air was so think it stopped the music from getting to me. I was really not your best set of conditions to see the band. Given that they all pulled off magic tricks playing their respective instruments in that heat. At bonner springs in 91 I saw the band use airconditioning set up on the stage to keep it cooler, not at the Mann, For the Mann, that place suck for services, they knew it was 100F but still wouldn't give us ice or glasses to get water, it was all about making a buck, hey at that temp they are lucky no one died. They really were bad & wouldn't help us. I just wanted to live. No cooling stations nothing, free for all do or die. Sorry it was what it was, the music saved me as it always does no matter what jackass or conditons clamp me down. Love this music & will keep lovng it no matter the review. I think it jams- if you dont great your opion and I hope I am not sitting next to you. there is a saying when I am sitting third row mail order, at the same time i'm seeing scarlet, where your sitting their playing me and my uncle...

What a unique show!
In agreement with everyone here, this show was sweet. Idk what J.N. is talkin about because if Furthur "rolled over the same old tiresome stuff with little or no conviction", then I would've just assumed they played the tracklisting from "The Very Best of the Grateful Dead." I was shocked with the Sittin' On Top opener, along with the wealth of covers (that really aren't what I consider to be covers...the Dead played those tunes throughout their career and really made some of those tunes their own). "Last Time" absolutely rocked, along with "Quinn" and an absolutely INCREDIBLE "Loser."
Despite an insanely cool first set, I though the second set was far superior...which is only a description of how awesome this show was. "Shakedown" was brilliant, and the big jam "PITB>Help>Slip>Franklin's>PITB (Reprise)>Death Don't Have No Mercy" sealed the deal. "Midnight Hour" was alright, I was hoping for a "Lovelight"...but still solid. Amazing encores, totally spontaneous and unique!
My 8th Dead-member show over the past 3 years...this one was up there, possibly only inferior to the first night at Mann last year (July 10, 2010) or Bob Weir & RatDog at the Tower Theatre in '08 (November 15, 2008)...but after this one sets in I could change my mind. This one was hot!
