Reviews
There is a little bit of everything to like about this show : China Cat Sunflower > Minglewood Blues,
Maggie's Farm, Cosmic Charlie,
Welcome to the Dance > China Doll,
Like a Rolling Stone > Casey Jones
II: Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion > Viola Lee Blues > In the Midnight Hour > Viola Lee Blues
> Why Don't We Do It in the Road > Viola Lee Blues,
And then late in the second set:
Weather Report Suite Prelude/Part 1
> Let It Grow, Stella Blue
a rare treat in 1973- vintage in 2011
and oh so mellow!!!
Yes, Weir has to reach for it at times.
yet this harkens us to a period of Donna Jean's best vocal work counterpoint to Weir - Sunshine Becker is all over this!!!
And once you are nice and comfy and seriously mellowed out -then the band brings Scarlet > Fire to close it all out.
Encore- Liberty is Vegas in spades!
and yes it is Weir bringing the great Hunter lyrics.
"If I was the sun, I'd look for shade
If I was a bed, I would stay unmade
If I was a river I'd run uphill
If you call me you know I will
If you call me you know I will
Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home
Say what I mean and I don't give a damn
I do believe and I am who I am
Hey now Mama come and take my hand
Whole lotta shakin' all over this land"
