The energy at MSG last night was positively electric...both the band and audience. Opened the FIRST set with Sugar Magnolia and ended with Box of Rain. One highlight after the other. Phil & John were on fire. Larry Campbell & Theresa Williams were guests beginning with Tennessee Jed. Larry remained for most of the show playing the fiddle which was a nice touch. The second set didnt disapoint either beginning with a real funky Shakedown Street and concluding with Sunshine Daydream. The Attics of of My Life encore had incredible harmonies by the band and their guests. Last night would be hard to top...if it's even possible to do so. A great show from start to finish.

The Other One was mesmerizing and St. Stephen had an especially long and intense jam. Hard to put into words. We were at the uppermost cheap seats and the whole section was up and rocking. That band owned MSG last night. It is a pleasure when you can partake in such a large collective jam party. In a perfect world there would have been a third set.

Words cannot express the experience had by all at MSG last night. Incredible first set with Box of Rain finish just sweet!! Second set kept it magical with St. Stephen producing smiles abound from the fans. The show just continued to elevate and I am positive this was the best Furthur show I have ever witnessed. Chills!!!

had to miss this show due to life and such - 4 this tour is all I could muster. Looks like I missed a doozy, gotta hear it. Posting because the network news closes with NYC skyline with Empire State Bldg behind the credits. Yup, lit in tie dye colors again last night!

This was my 25th Furthur show, so I'm pretty happy it wasn't just 'another night at the Garden'. From the opening Sugar/Scarlet, you knew it was going to be hot hot hot all night, and naturally when Phil brought out Larry and Theresa, the deal was sealed. I personally love what I've hear from Larry Campbell with both Furthur and Hot Tuna. If you like Hot Tuna and Larry's fiddle, you owe it yourself to listen to the CD release from the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock, NY 12/13/09.
Anyway, the first set was one of those "early second set" the band does on occasion, with the only real 1st set tunes followed by a run of UJB, Eyes, So Many Roads (so glad it wasn't 7 Hills of Gold, as someone behing me was claiming), and a wonderful Box of Rain closer.
Second set gave me my 2 picks of the night right off the bat (Other One a nod to the 10-year anniversary of Kesey's passing), followed by two very nice versions of songs that usually I've seen them do enough times, Stephen and UBC. The Wheel flowed perfectly, and it was one of Bob's "better" Days, so wasn't complaining about that either, especially since it gave me some time to rest from the frenzied dancing that was taking place all night. In any case, the set heated up again with Theresa's version of another Gary Davis cover, making me wonder if Jorma himself was going to walk onstage. And then they just burned through the rest of whatever fabric was holding the night together with a Fire/SSDD to close out the Sugar/Scarlet sandwich. All that, plus Attics. That, my friends, is as good as it gets on a Thursday night...

Great first set. Repeat great first set. Definite highlights and low lights in the second set. Nice Shakedown Street, Other One, and opening of St Stephen. A solid Wheel and a strong Fire Sunshine Daydream finish - nice swing back into completing the Sugar Mags Scarlet Fire opening.
Second set was uneven. Parts of the spacier jams were on and some not so much and I thought two of Jeff Chementi's keyboard solos degenerated into just banging and noise and there is no reason for Days Between to exist, wish they would drop it from the repertoire.
Nothing wrong with the performances but it seems as if I get Unbroken Chain and Attics of My Life as the encore almost every show. Different spin on Attics each time, from acapella at Blockbuster, semi-country/gospel feel with Elvis, Diane Krall, Larry and Theresa at Radio City, and a more straight ahead/soft rock tinge on it last night.

Had a chance to listen to the SBD a few times, a few more comments...
1st set: Bob flubs the "juat like NYC" line in Ramble on Rose. Larry's fiddle is fantastic, and he's also playing it during Eyes, despite what the setlist says. They also did Eyes > So Many Roads during the first set of the second MSG show in 2010.
There's a very brief 'Spanish Jam' tease from Bob between the verses of Other One...Days Between starts out sounding like '2 Djinn' with Jeff on the piano. And the transition from Fire > SSDD was almost perfect, but only Sunshine was ready to start singing after the first downbeat.
Great night overall - not as good as the weekender the year before, but an excellent one night stand, and the best show of the tour hands-down. Thanks again!
