In the post Jerry era I've found many of the shows I've attended to be either great 1st set so-so 2nd set or vice versa. The bands always seemed to have trouble deciding who would sing which song on a tour and often would change arrangements to the detriment of songs. With that said this show was such a treat as it flowed and sounded like a GD show Bob sings a song then JK sings one a quick one by phil. The show opened with a great music never stopped not too short not too spacy followed by a fantastic 1-2 punch of alabama getaway and greatest story ever told. When Bob begins to sing Mission in the Rain I got a lil nervous thinking to myself no way he pulls off this kind of opening but he does. Fantastic Weir sounds the best hes sounded in years playing with a focus that maybe wasnt always present at all times in the past few years. JK gives the band that Jerry feel with both his singing and his playing. Listening to Gimme some Lovin' if you close your eyes while Jeff and JK are going back and forth with each other it sounds like Brent and Jerry. After this fantastic 1st set my thoughts werent how can they top this in the 2nd set it was how can they even match this. But top it they did opening with a great Truckin>smokestack>truckin'. The rest of the 2nd set was well played with purposeful jamming and great transistions. The high point of not just the 2nd set but the show itself was definately Terrapin Station. They nailed it. The show ended with nice versions of Standing on the Moon and Lovelight. Furthur was firing on all cylinders on this night and after listening to some other shows from this tour I'd say they've never sounded better!
